He was brought in to play the nose. I read in camp he was taking up two o-linemen and causing all kinds of disruption. I was wondering how he has looked in game action. I think he was a huge addition and can plug the middle to let our LB clean up the run and put the QB in his back.

So how has he looked?

pretty solid and last week he had a sack too

he's a stud. pray soliai or someone else steps up if big Ferg needs to take a play off.

When watching the Tampa game, on the very first play... of his first pre-season game with the Dolphins... Ferguson got a sack. I thought to myself, wow, what a way to make a statement. What a great signing.

Then the rest of the game happened... and Ferguson had NO more tackles or sacks after that first play. It's unclear to me whether he got any pressures.
******
In game 2, Jax, Ferguson finished with 1 tackle.
******
So I'm undecided what to think about Ferguson so far. Maybe he just got lucky on one play?
******
His backup, Soliai, finished the game in Jax with 4 tackles, and caused the Jones-Drew fumble on the 1-yard-line.

Apparently on that goal-line-stand, we had the jumbo d-line in on that play. Starks-Ferguson-Soliai. That seems like a good run-stuffing combination.

I am more concerned with his primary duties of clogging the middle so the linebackers can make the plays, if he can take two linemen to a stalemate we are more than half way to cutting the opposing YPC to something less than 8 yards

Generally your not gonna see a nose tackle put up huge numbers, and that's because its not their job to put up numbers, its there job to hold up 2 maybe 3 guys and let the linebackers make the plays, i would say the average NT around the league makes only about 35-40 tackles a year and about 1-3 sacks, and those are good number cause its not their #1 job to make tackles or get pressure, if the can great, but they need to take up blockers and stuff the middle. Look at Vince Wilfork he is a guy i consider to be the best pure NT in the league, and his stats were 48 tackles and 2 sacks, and he went to the pro bowl. Job #1 take up blockers and create a pile in the middle, job #2 (if they can) make the play.

good job- you were a little more patient with your explaination than i was

The 1st play with TB he had a 1 on 1 situation. After that he faced at least 2 blockers every time. He's a keeper.
