Culturally, Financially, and everything else?

Really, I need to write a paper on how one event significantly affect the city of Miami for an english course, and aside from using the overly easy Hurricane Andrew, I'd rather use this an excuse to write about the Dolphins.

So help me out. Provide links. Research, if it even exists.

Cool idea for a paper. Hopefully some of the Dolphins fans who were around from that era can give you some good info.

First thing I can think of is the Don Shula Expressway. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_State_Road_874 (You probably don't want to site wikipedia as a link but its a starting point lol) Thats a pretty permanent tribute to man that made it all happen. There is the Dolphin Expy. too but that's not quite as specific. I guess it depends on how you are going to present everything.

I'm sure you will also want to do some research on the Robbie family, etc. Going back to Shula, you might be able to tie him and the 1972 Team into the developement of Miami Lakes. I wish I could think of some more things but I'm sure the old schoolers would have much better perspective on how it impacted the town then someone like me who was born 7 years after the fact.

Best of luck on your paper!

If it doesnt have to do with the 1972 fins in specific and about football in general you can say how the NFL keeps bringing the Superbowl to south Florida. That's definitely a boost on the states economy. I think.

i'd say since it was the first professional florida team, it helped show there was market for other Floridian teams.. It brought together the tri-county South Florida region and that fan base would be strong enough to support the heat, then marlins, then panthers, not to mention our influence on tampa and jacksonville sports..

it's a good paper idea, mention some of the charities/foundations that may of happened..

Oh yeah didnt Marino scare away the Columbian Drug Mafia in 83, that changed Miami big time :)
