do think for this Minnesota team at this time, Brad Johnson is a good quarterback because he sits in the pocket and surveys his options and lets routes develop, which you have to do with young receivers like Nate Burleson and Troy Williamson. But the Vikes offense was waylaid by the Giants last week, and Minnesota won only because of phenomenal special-teams play and the worst game of Eli Manning's life. Green Bay's defense should continue this trend. I was wrong about this D before the season. I said the Packers made a big mistake not spending in free agency. Instead they put all their eggs in new defensive coordinator Jim Bates's basket. Now they'd better be careful or Bates is going to coach himself into head-coaching contention.

Last week, Packer cap czar Andy Brandt was driving down a Green bay street, past a bank, when he looked up at the bank sign. Instead of a sign saying, "Home Equity Loans! No Closing Costs!'' there was a sign saying, "In Gado We Trust.''

How the hell can we letthis guy go?

The problem isn't the scheme.. its the players.. this teams defensive back broke more times than i can remember over the past few years.
And look at all the talent we lost in the secondary!

The prob on offense and defense, is noone is willing to adapt these schemes to the players and tlaent we have.

we are dumbing down the playbook... but they aren't executing.
i was at the game yesterday... Our defensive secondary cant tackle worth a damn.

We don't have the talent.

Bates wasn't coming back as a Defensive Coordinator. Bates wanted the head coaching job or nothing at all - with the Dolphins. Get over it.

You know I really liked Bates and if we couldnt get Saban I wouldve loved to keep him around. The players loved the guy and he was able to get 110% out of them, something Saban still hasn't figured out how to do. I think Saban will be the better option in the long term but I think we would have had a better team this year with Bates. One thing's for sure - Gus wouldnt have been our QB. If Saban gets us a shutdown corner, a dominating left tackle and a decent or good QB, then barring injuries, we will be in the playoffs next year - mark my words

when Bates was here...all I remember was this Defense alway folding under pressure...do you remember that?

His defense was boring and too predictable...and Bates had a younger Defense with more talent than we have now and guess what...they still couldn't come up big when it counted most...his Defense fell apart at times...got it.

Nick Saban has done a very good job with the players he has inherited and with the players he has...2-3 years...and we will be back into the playoff hunt.

Go Fins!!!

Theres a big difference between a team playing hard to win an existing coach whom they like as a person a new position on the team, and a Vet team coming out flat after they have lost a big game that basically eliminated them from the playoffs....we beat two really pathetic teams last year in the Browns and 49ers barely, it was hardly an historical run.

This team knows Saban is in no jeopardy right now.

Nobody is happy about the game yesterday, it was failure from every standpoint, but it was one game.

This team has played hard all year until yesterday.

This is wicked random, but do you remember when after we beat the Pats last year and Bates gave his press conference after the game? At the time he had beaten the 49ers and Patriots and he said that the Pats game was the biggest win of the year. It was funny though because he was trying to sound so nice about it in terms of the 49ers win. I think he said something like "You know, we beat the 49ers on the road and it's allways big when you win on the road. It's really hard to say what win is better but when you look back on it, I guess you will have to say that beating the Patriots is a bigger win." Haha I don't think this means anything and has nothing to do with this thread, but for some reason it really made me laugh and I just thought about it while reading this thread.

That's not entirely accurate. The Dolphin's defense played much different with Bates as HC than they did with Bates as the DC. Bates was consistantly overruled in his play calling by Wanny....something widely discussed after Wanny left.

I'm in Saban's corner. The difference between me and most others who are in Saban's corner (I'm not including you) is that I'm willing to point out his accomplishments and his failures. Too many people (once again not you) on this site are either too positive or too negative. As for Bates, he was my choice for coach after Saban and Weiss. All I was saying was that if we got him I wouldn't have been upset with the choice

Agreed.... batres motivated through his enthusiasm.... but even his defense was being exposed here.
