1. Offer 3rd round pick for Randy Moss. Move Chambers to slot. This would be a killer 1-2 combo with Booker as our #3. Moss seems to have worn out his welcome in Oaktown and could possibly be had for a 4th. The Raiders could be going with Calvin Johnson with the #1 so this could make sense for them.

2. Draft our future QB in first round. I do not think that all 3 of the big guns will be gone by our #9 (at least I hope not). My guess is that Brohm would be there if he declares (I haven't heard is he has or not, sorry)

3. Upgrade our LB's and OL through FA. There are very good upgrades available this year.

4. Ricky will be back so our RB group is automatically upgrading. This being said, I am a very big Ronnie fan so I think we are good here already.

5. Use our remaining picks on:
a) DB
b) DL
c) OL
d) WR
e) remaining best available

6) Cut either Harrington or Culpepper (I vote for Pep to be cut because of his inability to read defenses and his uncertain health issue). Maybe even cut both and hand the reins to Lemon and have our new QB be the #2 with Marcus Vick as our "emergency QB". This way we do not use up another roster spot for someone that would never see any playing time.

Anyway, this is how I would upgrade us if I were the GM. Obviously, I am not so this is just one fan's opinion. I look forward to your feedback.

I'm with you for the most part. I am absolutely opposed to Moss. Too much cash for a headcase IMO. Also, though I would target OL with FA, I like Joe Staley or Aaron Sears alot with our 2nd pick if available

Wow, that's a pretty serious overhaul. I can't say that I agree with most of it. If we were to bring in Randy Moss (and I do stress if) it wouldn't make sense to part ways with Daunte. He and Randy have a good chemistry on the field. Having said that, I think Randy may be too much of an enigma for us to even want to touch.

Yeah, I understand the headcase part but I think if we really want a significant upgrade we should consider him. Think how happy he would be down there in South Beach. We could possibly rework his contract to a more friendly cap number. He is probably itching to get out of the pit that is Oakland.

I think we can get an excellent WR with our second rounder

the draft is gonna be sick with day 1 WR's

IMO this year's draft is shaping up to be deep at a lot of positions that we need help in. I am excited to see how things shake out.

I would rather target a cheap option like Kevin Curtis of St Louis

excellent post

would you be opposed to getting our future QB in round 2 or 3?

Only on the condition one isnt available in round 1. If we pass on Russell/Quinn/Brohm then we have made a mistake. If we cant get one of those guys, and Brennen either hasnt declared or isnt graded nearly high enough, then yes, we should go after the best QB we can in a different round.

Basically, we draft with QB being the most important position, and we address it as soon as we can within reason. Not gonna be a moron and advocate, say, Tyler Palko in the first.

My rationale behind cutting Pep is mainly due to his cap number increasing to 5.5 next year. I am not sold on his ability to read defenses and this is a big number for someone that we are not 100% sold on. His numbers dropped off after Moss left.

Wouldnt cutting him give us a nastier cap hit than keeping him?

I thought if we cut him before June 1, then we are only responsible for a portion of his salary. I may be wrong but I thought that is how it worked. But as I said earlier, I am no GM.

I should probably ask Clumpy!

the pain is going to have to occur. better this year than next

Move Chambers to the slot? Huh? IF we bring in Moss, Chamber should play opposite of him at either flanker or split end. If you are talking about when we go 3 or 4 wide then yes, move him to the slot.
Brohm hasn't declared and the deadline is fast approaching so until he does, he's not an option. That leaves only two qbs worth taking in the first round. Russell and Quinn. Taking anyone else would be a huge mistake at #9.

I got a better idea. Trade Chambers and Culpepper to Oakland for Calvin Johnson and Moss or Johnson and a 2nd rd pick If we have to throw in another player or a 6th I would even do that. Davis gets a big QB, athletic WR , we gain cap room and get a WR with a much higher upside than Chambers and we can let Lemon begin his new career at starter. Chambers only wants to catch passes from Culpepper, so let him go do that somewhere else.If we don't get Moss, a 2nd rd pick would get us another WR with speed or a great LB or CB. If Davis wants Culpepper to be with Moss and Chambers he may bite.
