I know alot of these pickups we have gotten so far this off season seem to be backup type players. Now i think some may contend for starting jobs and at the very least i see them as depth to our roster. I think depth is important for a couple reasons. First if the injury bug bites us again we will have guys to step in will they be all pro type players prolly not (not sure we have many of those on the roster at the moment anyway) but we know they will be hard workers and play every down hard. Secondly i think that if they prove valuable they can spell our starters leaving them fresh for the end of the game when they can close it out which we failed to do last season shut them down when we needed to. Thirdly i see this as a good thing to inspire competition and make everyone work for everything make them earn it and that can help build chemistry. And alot of these guys are young but have viable NFL experience and can help our draft picks and can learn and expand themselves. So on a scale of importance i see depth as pretty important.

What do you think? How important is depth in your opinion? If you can put it on a 1-10 (10 being the highest) go ahead and let us know

well if you look at all the injuries last year and how our depth looked i'd have to rank depth really high. every team is gonna get injuries and the backups need to step in and contibute

yeah thats what i was thinking....id take 55 solid hard working players any day of the week and thats what i think we are starting to build on this team and its exciting.

10 most definately. I am concerned that many of the special teams pickups are not good at any position. Nate Jones, Tab perry, Keith Davis and Sean Ryan so far have not been good when they have had so far. we have no line depth, no wr depth, no te depth, no cb depth

without a doubt...its a 10...and i love the signings we have had so far...

we dont need stars at every position, but if we are good at every position, rather than great at only a few...ill take that just as much

In recent years the Patriots have demonstrated the importance of quality depth .....and I emphasize quality depth rather than bodies.

When there are injuries or players become too epensive to keep they always seem to have someone ready to step in without missing a beat.

Its particularly important when you are making a run at the playoffs IMO.

I look at the signings as hungry young talent that provided depth to other teams. While most of these guys seem to be back-ups because of what they did for the teams they came from don't mean they aren't going to have a shot at starting. Most of these guys are really young and hopefully we got some hidden gems that was buried on other teams depth charts.
