While researching for fantasy football i was intriguied by something i saw in michael vicks stats. In the games in which he was sacked 2 or more times his record was 3 - 5. Given that the falcons record when vick was in the lineup was 8 - 5 (he was injured one game that they lost), that means all 5 losses came in games in which he was sacked 2 or more times. I decided to look at frerottes stats to see if they correlated to vicks stats. In games in which he was sacked 2 or more times the phins record was 3 - 5 also. Given the phins record it was not as dramatic difference, but enough to conclude that pressuring the Qb is one of the most important stats when trying to win the game. Everyone always barks about turnovers and time of possession but pressuring the Qb might be the most important. With everyone on espn saying the chargers exploited the colts weakness by pressuring payton, maybe pressuring the Qb is every teams weakness.

it has become the essence of modern defense... of course... disrupting the quarterback, and rattling him... the purest barometer of a quality defense: Pressuring the QB....

stopping the run is only essential until you prove you don't need to anymore... from then on it's almost all pass defense... that's what wins in today's pass-happy NFL... good secondaries, and good pressure on the other team's QB...

Pressure leads to turn-overs and TOP

sure pressuring the Qb leads to turnovers but the good teams counter blitzing with a quality rushing attack, which adds to their time of possession. pressuring the Qb is the most important thing a defense can do.

I believe getting a defensive line that can pressure a QB without needing blitz help and can stop the run is the most important unit to build to get to the Super Bowl. Offensive line second, QB third.

agreed, when you get pressure with just your front 4 the offense is in trouble because you can do whatever you want on defense.

it seperates the men from the boys. peyton manning folds under constant pressure. brady has excellent pocket presence and will complete every pass no matter the pressure (unless it's the dolphins)

Well you stuff EJames and pressure Manning all day and even the Colts are beatable. When a team cant run and cant pass its pretty tough to win.

Yea a 4 man rush that works is the best "blitz" one can ask for, it allows you to drop 7 guys in coverage, beautiful thing.
