Ok, Ive decided to play devils advocate to the Ricky "sick" wishers out there.

Some points:

Ricky is still better than most RB's talent wise
Ricky needs to pay some bills
We dont want to lose 8 million in bills
Ricky will have fresh legs come week 5
Ricky gives Ronnie some added value by being used in all phases of the game
Saban is the reason Ricky is here, if you dont like the move, badmouth
Saban, otherwise, SHUT YOUR YAP! (in the spirit of TOMMYBOY)
Ricky is not killing this team from within, it can actually bring the team
together psychologically and intrinsically. Ricky is not arrogant.
Maybe confused or whacky, but not arrogant (it is ok to dissagree here)
I have actually witnessed other players who have torn their team apart from
within doing other things than quit.
Ricky was under certain circumstances last year, this year is much different
(not to belittle quitting on your team)
Ricky apologized to the whole team and to the public and has obeyed all
commands so far. Until he does something stupid again, noone has
a thing to say as far as i am concerned.
Ricky starts scoring TD's and having 100 yd games, all will be forgotten
Ricky can groom the future - Ronnie

Having quitters on your team always hurts. Remember RW has a history of this behavior.
-In 2003, RW had to be talked into returning to the game(against Buff) at halftime by his teammates. ( these players were not preparing for the 2nd half b/c they were dealing with his drama.)
-He has put forth poor effort in his blocks when he isn't carrying the ball. (exhibit A would be his half-a** block on Freeney that allowed a sack and ended our chance for a go ahead TD in that game)
-He admitted that he didn't run hard in 2003. People blame the OL for his poor YPC, but his lower effort level probably had some effect as well.

He brings a boatload of distractions with him including negative media attention and ridicule. This affects some players (and based on the posts, some fans too).

This is in exchange for what I expect will be backup production (500-600 yds), barring an injury or holdout to/by RB. IMO that's a steep price.

What I expect is that RW will be a good citizen for a short while and then will again quit or flake or whatever. If Saban is smart he will dump RW for whatever he can get. We won't get value, we lost that when we over paid to get him, but we won't lose any more.

He's a certifiable head case who can run the ball better than just about anyone when he wants to. Saban will deal with it.

I still wonder about the world we live in. Players beat their wives, drink and drive, and other stupid crap, and the world chooses Ricky quitting football to single out. Yeah, it made me mad when he quit, but it also makes me mad that the world harps on some things, and leaves much bigger issues alone.
