Happy Hour discussion prompted by Seattle's pick of Wilson. They were not better or smarter than all 31 other teams and the millions analyzing drafts. They just had some dumb luck, When will Miami's have some of the same? Football Gods know that we have more than paid our dues on the opposite happening.

In any case, how many other picks can we name who were much more luck than making very smart draft picks?

I disagree, I don't think it was a dumb luck pick. He was a proven winner in college with obvious great leadership qualities and confidence. He just happened to be short but he also had massive hands and other physical attributes like elusiveness.
In contrast, Tom Brady in the 6th round and Tony Romo, undrafted could be considered dumb luck signings.

Getting zach and Jason in back to back years must have used it up for us for a while lol

You think that Seattle had a mater plan to take him in the 3rd, and with so many teams looking for a QB, they were the only one's who saw his talent and potential and waited because they were smarter than all other teams at least twice?

Nah, just dumb luck.

Add in Marino but, that's not 30 years worth of luck. :(

Tim Tebow was a proven winner in college; Troy Smith was also a proven winner. There are a lot of QBs in college that do not translate into pro QBs. Russell Wilson appeared like he was going to one of those type of QBs.

You know some times you have to be good to be lucky.

Are you considering Marino a dumb luck pick? If so, I'm not sure I understand this topic.

I am, as there was no way he should have dropped to us. Even Shula said the same year's ago.

There is an old saying that the harder you work, the luckier you get. Does not apply to the NFL draft.

I wouldn't say the Wilson pick was a dumb luck, according to rumors the Seahawks stole him from the Eagles who also wanted him in the third. Ideally, you take players where you think you can get them, if they "knew" they could get him in the third but not the fourth then you have to give credit where it's due.

I'm pretty sure we were targeting Jimmy Graham in the fourth, Payton knew it and swooped in and stole him first. Its all part of the game. It wasn't dumb luck for Payton, it was just Ireland being dumb.

Agreed but, he was passed on for more than two rounds by all teams.

And if you're really good, you know that you try to maximize your value. Calling it dumb luck is just ridiculous
