and were not thrown to because Pennington threw underneath for a short gain or just did not see them because they were past 10 yards down field.:up:Also how many times were Hagan and Wilford or London; our big receivers thrown to in the Redzone this year. Even if they were not open because big receivers that are one on one in the NFL are thrown to even when covered because of the advantage. Just some questions i had about the strange receiver use on this team. I do want to say that Pennington has done a good job of not turning the ball over and running the offense but need to look for the open man farther down the field. Yes the TE have done that and thats great but there has been receivers open too but were not even seen. Go Fins and destroy the Ravens this week.

Our wide receivers are only "open" after the pass is thrown and the defenders have moved away. They are seldom open at the time the pass has to be made. Ginn would be a good slot type receiver but he is not a good #1. We need to trade or draft one as a first priority.
I understand a large percent of the fan base wants to see the long ball often; whether it is the right thing to do or not. With a Randy Moss, TO, etc. you can take those chances even when the receiver is covered but with Hagen, Ginn, etc. you can not. If ChadP was chucking it up and getting it picked off because he shouldn't have thrown it you would be complaining about that too.
Bottom line is Pennington is better than Henne at this point of their careers - when he is not Henne will start. Coaches have far more riding on playing their best players than we fans do.

So how many games have you been too?

Or do you just get a special camera beamed to your tv that shows more of the field than everybody else can see so you're able to see the receivers that are down field?

if he was missing reads that bad im sure some action would be taken..
Guys the Offense is not our prob guys face it. We score 28 we should win.

When the offense scores 28 points who cares who is getting the ball. I have been to a couple of games and the receivers do not get seperation. Cam has been able to learn to get a little but if you have watched him most of his catches have been with a db on him like glue. The wr are not getting it done. How can other wr get so much seperation and we cant. Chad is not going to throw a ball to a receiver who has a guy all over him, he is accurate but not perfect. How may times have other receivers broken screen plays and short pass plays for big yards against us, why cant we do that. The QB is not the problem here its the wrs.

Living in WV I've been to as many games as you have probably been able to attend living in the Dakotas - NONE.
But I've watched those games I could (some on TV, the others on internet feeds) and I've witnessed the same kind of comments about QBs at games I've attended. It is easy to look downfield as the ball is being thrown and say a receiver looks open (the defense has reacted to the pass already). If ChadP was constantly missing open receivers he wouldn't be the starting QB. On plays where the camera has followed our WRs they seem to be blanketed every time. I know Ginn has great speed but that is often not enought to get the seperation needed.
The offense is not the reason we are 2-3 instead of 4-1.

The offense isn't hurting our team but it is hurting any chance we have of developing the wide receivers on this team. How can our young group of wr's get better if Pennington never throws to them.

So far just the Chargers game for me, I didnt see them open downfield much, but in that game when they actually did get open, penny got the ball downfield in the 15-20 yard range a number of times.

Next game ill see live is the Bills game.

Don't blame penny, blame the receivers. Fasano and Martin are getting open, why can't our WRs?

But please, I encourage anyone that has access to film to watch and let us all know the stats on missed opportunities downfield.

When the offense scores 28 points who cares who is getting the ball.

The reason we need to care is that score isnt everything. Time of possession is huge. Our offense doesnt make third down conversions, which is keeping the D onfield a long time, wearing them down and causing them to be far less effective.

We need more balance. Don't get me wrong, I love the long ball, but I love moving the chains alot more. We need reliable hands on thrid and long to convert, so far we havent had that.

Are you suggesting he throw to them even if they are covered and risk a turnover? How does throwing to them help them get better?
As I stated before, there are a few receivers (Moss, TO, etc.) with whom I'd agree with you - throw it to them, even if covered, and see if they can't make a play. But we have no WR of that stature (the JETS game int. proved that).
Our WRs need to know that they will see the ball more often when they run better routes and get open. Chad will throw to them if they give him space to throw to - Coles had no trouble getting passes from Chad in NY nor did Moss at Marshall. Chad is not a QB who will force a ball long; personally I appreciate that. Chad's average yard per pass is currently 6th in the league.

agreed but need to be balanced on offense by utilizing WR talent :up:better.
We dont have WR talent. Face it, our best WR is Camarillo. He is decent, but he is in no way, shape or form a #1.

With the Jets, Penny had no problems hitting his WRs. Thats because they were, you know, good.

I find it very hard to believe that our wide receivers are so bad that they are never open. I've seen plays where he went with the closer tight end when they was an clearly open wide receiver maybe ten yards past him. I know he was open because they showed a replay and even pointed it out. You have to admit that Chad is conservative and looks short most of the time, which isn't necessarily a bad thing for scoring, but our wide receivers just aren't getting thrown to.

Like the optimism of this but post, but penny had no problem hitting his recievers for long gains when he was in a jets uniform, AND I WATCHED HIM IN AT LEAST 20 TIMES HERE IN JERSEY.. Statisticlly our recieving core is below average at best. We need better talent at the position. Period. The front office will address the situation this offseason.

What came first: the chicken or the egg. Its' really the same old story, the receivers don't get a lot of seperation, the QB while better than we've had in a while, can't really drive the ball down field. When he does go long it has a lot of air under it, it's no Dan the Man frozen rope. This staff preaches taking care of the ball, IMHO, don't try to make throws you can't make. Pretty simple to me, You know the D doesn't have to defend the deep outs so that limits what you can do and where you can go.

My first thought was.. How many bombs did Montana make on route to winning his multiple Sbs?

My second thought was, Pennington sure lit us up deep when the Jets played us.
