When we drafted him, everybody (including myself) were happy about the acquisition. Some people took their excitement a little bit further by making up stupid @ss nicknames for him, making posts about what he's going to do to Brady, calling him the rookie of the year before the season even started, etc.

During preseason, I was a bit dissappointed in his play. He didn't seem to be able to rush the QB that well even though he never quit. I really hope that he'll be better next year and he'll really make a difference on this D because right now, he's been quite a dissapointment for being drafted in the 2nd round.

Does anybody know who are the top rookie DE and have stats on them?

second guess ourselves is not very productive... I remember everyone extremely excited to have Roth. He's also playing behind some excellent veteran talent. Roth will make plays... But he's not a full time starter and may not get as many reps as some other rookies who were inserted because they don't have the talent we have.
Instilling the mindset of shoulda, coulda, woulda, doesnt help us debate a more productive conversation of perhaps to debate how to use players effectively

You've got me all wrong. I'm not second guessing the pick. I liked the pick and I still hope that he's going to turn out to be a fine player. On the other hand, there are far too many people that think that a player that plays great in college is going to come in here now and play just as great and then begin with the nicknames and handing out awards when the guy hasn't done one thing in this league. I haven't given up on him but I would say that I'm dissapointed that he hasn't been able to be more of say a pass rushing specialist on 3rd downs. That's not too much to ask for from a rookie 2nd rounder is it?

I agree. Yesterday I made a thread nicknaming him Maxipad instead of Maximus.

I like roth and I think he will be a very good(not great) player for us once he gets more reps.

Sometimes a rookie plays like a rookie. I don't know if Roth will ever be a special player, but I am very confident that he will be a solid starter sometime in the near future. I could see him being converted to LB too.

Here are the stats on some of the better known rookie DE's. I believe Pollack and D.Cody are now LB's so thats why they're not listed. Statiscally Roth looks about even with everyone except for Ware. I havent had a chance to watch all of these other guys but I have had a good look at Roth. I have been dissapointed so far but since Roth is coming off what I hear was his best game (KC) I will wait to evaluate him until after the game airs tonight.

Marcus Spears 5 tackles 0.5 sacks
Erasmus James 2 tackles
Demarcus Ware 17 tackles 4 sacks
Luis Castillo 12 tackles
Matt Roth 7 tackles

DeMarcus Ware is being used as a linebacker in the JT mold. Roth is being used more like Marcus Spears.

Quite unfortunately, with the injury to JT, we might see more sooner than later what Roth is really made of. Also, wasnt Demarcus Ware like the 12th pick overall? That along with the fact that he is the the only real stud on the Dallas front line (Ware is actually listed as a LB now) Dude should have some nice stats

Roth was a second rounder, and is small for a DE. I think he will be nice once Lord Saban defines his role a little more clearly.

what about David Pollack, I think he's doing pretty well to for the Bengals, I believe.

Hes playing LB in the NFL...

and Ware is playing OLB in the 3-4 as well.

Roth will be fine imo. Wait till next year or till he actually starts. I know maybe he sucks because Carter and Taylor and Holliday are still starting over him not to mention Bowens getting his reps.:shakeno: Which brings me to another theory, maybe we shouldn't rotate as much until the TOP gets to bad it might be taking them out of a groove.
