Burke is about to call his first regular-season defensive game on any level. And while X’s and O’s are important, Burke will rely nearly as much on his Ivy League degree for success. Burke has natural ability to connect with his players on a human level, a big reason why Dolphins coach Adam Gase entrusted the job of turning around Miami’s historically bad defense with a career assistant.

he isn't using jones to his strengths. we are getting gutted in the passing game. run d looks ok, but good god why the hell are we still dropping one of the best pass rushers in the game back in coverage on 3rd down

We need an experienced DC not someone who was a positions coach and hope and he can be the answer!

How stupid does he look continually blitzing Rivers?

On the one hand, I don't think our defense is chock full of good players.

On the other, why continue bad blitzes against a damn good QB against the blitz?

We can't stop anything with this D .
LB's are horrible and the backfield is way too soft .
Rivers getting a junk of yards on us every series .

How do we fix this ...

I think a lot of it is on the players. But when you cannot get any type of pass rush with the talent we are supposed to have along the line something is wrong. We had linebackers blitzing from strange angles and just running right into a wall of blockers. We didnt make Rivers uncomfortable at all. D-line is supposed to be our strength but they didn't rush the passer well. On the other hand they did stop the run...so maybe they were focusing on that rather than applying pressure?

Well, if you can stop the run, it's because you are winning at the line of scrimmage. I don't see how we win at the line of scrimmage and get no pressure/sacks

Can't say I am impressed by our defense at all. They gave the game away, and we got damn lucky they have a guy who can't kick. That said, considering IRMA and all that, I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt this week. They need to really clean some things up and I am sure they are well aware. I expect a much better performance next week. However, I question whether we have the talent to actually deliver a quality performance. I guess we will see.

Umm, odd article. Did it even say HOW he was going to fix the defense? If so, I kinda missed it.

In the end, he held a very explosive offense to 17 points. There were some serious flaws, but let's be real, he was working with a LB core that is embarassing. Rivers put up more points against Denver's defense and look what they are doing to Dallas.

Don't get me wrong, we have some serious holes. But the pass rush was also damn near nonexistent and with the talent we have, it shouldn't matter what scheme we ran.

Hold your head up high dolphin fans. We've had about as rough as an off season as imaginable and we're 1-0. Let's be happy
