I see some former players saying that, in the last couple of weeks, players are playing for themselves and not playing for their coach. and have to disagree to a degree.

In the parity of the NFL, each and every slight edge does matter, and many coaches do make that difference. From what I see Philbin does not. Great guy who I do respect but, with the emotion and leadership of an artichoke (emphasis on choke).

Maybe vet players don't need a HC to inspire them, and are leaders in their own right on and off the field but this young team does not have any. They (Dansby, Bush, and Long) were all let go, and we have paid the price for Philbin doing that.

I'm not saying that we need a fist pumping cheerleader like Sparano (although players played very hard for him) or, a JJ (who players also loved) or, even a Shula (whose stare could turn a player to stone without a word).

I am saying that we need a HC to add a little fire to the team, and Philbin is not the one to do it. JMO

Look at the Steelers with Bill Cowher, and without him.

Pitt should have been a dynasty, Tomlin inherited a young championship team.

Coaching matters, you still need talent but look at SF from 2010 to 2011(I think Jim Harbaugh is the best coach in the league).

If players like the coach they will run through walls for him, if the don't they will fold like a cheap tent!

Totally in terms of organization, system implementation, putting players in position to win, gameday management, and selecting personnel on the basis of their physical and leadership characteristics.

Little to nothing in terms of motivation and inspiration, once those other pieces are in place.

Ask the chiefs

Yeah, they kept winning for a few years and then their talent got old and their cap situation blew up.

It's about talent. I guarantee if the Dolphins had actually put a competent OL on the field and brought in, say, Zac Stacy, we would be talking about a first round playoff game right now.

Motivate and inspire is EXACTLY what GREAT coaches do.

Just look at what former players of all the GREAT coaches had to say about them.

Those are the exact things you will see in common when ex-players talk about former coaches like Tom Landry, Don Shula, & Vince Lombardi.

Everyone is upset about how the season ended. We did better than last year, but the way that we lost AFTER a Bye and after ten days off to me says it all.

He did not sufficiently motivate the players, the staff in total did not make the necessary plan changes for each game to succeed.

Did you the Jets post game lockeroom after they dismantled us? When Woody said he was keeping Ryan. Thats the epitome of a team that played for their coach. Good or bad, we will never see that in the Dolphins lockeroom with Philbin as HC

Your OL was good enough to make the playoffs, you lost b/c the QB didn't take the next step. You had talent on that O, you had playoff talent throughout that team. Coaching and the QB cost you.
