I cringe to think of the team Wannestedt would have mustered with all the crap that happened this offseason..

To be fair to Dave, we don't know what he would have done if it were still his job. He may have done better than we think.

I will say that I am impressed overall with Rick's choices. I take issue with the handling of the first round pick, but I endorse all of the other moves I can think of right now.

I hear ya, me and my buddy who is also a fin fan were saying the same thing today. I know the success or failure of Rick is in how the players produce, but that is the way with all. Not every single player will be a HOFer, but considering what when these things were dumped in his lap, he has done a tremenddous job of being aggressive while not selling the farm. Those that think Rick should go with Wanny are crazy IMO! He has done well, and deserves the normal 3 year proving period.

Well.. I believe we would be sitting here right now with Fiedler, Sage, a scrub and James Jackson.. But you are right.. we do not know.. but I fear it would have been much worse.

That is where I disagree somewhat, no we dont know as fact what Dave would have done, but based on past performances, he wouldnt have done what Rick has or as well.

Oh, I absolutely agree that Dave's track record isn't great. He managed to create an environment where the team deteriorated gradually in his tenure instead of one where the team stayed the same or got better. He didn't have the chance to show us what he might do if he was forced into drastic changes, though. The situations are very different, and this sort of situation may have actually inspired Dave to better performance in his GM role. It is equally true that he may have given up the farm and left us with a truly pathetic team. My point is just that we can't say for sure.

I would agree with this point, there is plenty of evidence that Dave is a poor judge of talent. But, I will reserve judgement on the conclusion that Rick has done great work here. Rick's track record in Chicago wasn't great, and its not clear to me that he has improved this team from last year.

But, we'll see.

LOL. Inspired Dave to better performance in his GM role?:roflmao: You should audition for "Last Comic Standing"

Alright this is offensive...

Rick Spielman has done NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is no defense of Dave Wannestedt...but they both need to go...

how can you praise Rick?

A second round pick for A.J. Feeley...I'm sorry did he come back and beat the Titans???? No, he threw a pick for a returned touchdown...
David Boston? Oh, I'm sorry he's out for the year.
Vernon Carey? You mean the guy who is on the bench.
Ricky Williams? Oh yes that was Rick's trade...
Lamar Gordon? He has 30 yards so far...call me when he has a thousand...
Marty Booker? Nice penalties...I could have kept McKnight for that

Start Over! Bring in Scott Pioli and let's start building a team!!!

2 things. First, Rick was not a GM in Chicago. He was a scout or something.

I am not a DW apoligist, but I have to say that I don't think it is fair to say he did a poor job with talent. The team has pretty much the same OR better talent than when Jimmy left. Below is a list of some players he brought in. I don't think he gets enough credit. HOWEVER, he has some real problems with identifying needs like WR and OL.

Offense Good Players:
Ricky Williams (he flaked, but he was awesome)
Chris Chambers
Randy McMichael
Todd Wade
Jamie Nails (before injury)

Offense decent players:
Wade Smith (still growing, but considering he was a rookie he was not bad)
Hunter Goodwin
Lamar Smith (carried us for a year)
Jay Fiedler (needs to go but did ok until the thumb injury in Denver)

Defense:
Ogunleye
Larry Chester
-- Gutsy move to cut Gardner
Seau
Greenwood
Walker (the safety who went to Detroit)
Sammy Knight
Terry Cousin

Rick was never in charge in Chi-Town. He was a front office assistant.
