So we know we haven't been running the amoeba or the 0 blitz or heavy pass-rushing packages the way we used to because they proved ineffective early in the season against Lamar and Allen plus Jones's unavailability and Brandon's season ending injury.

We know we keep playing everybody off the LOS and missing tackles. Now, everybody talking about Boyer and how we should bring Fangio. Do you guys know what Fangio runs?

Fangio runs what's called the Fangio 6 which is what the niners run. It involves playing 6 guys off the LOS with a 4 deep shell and 2 intermediate zones with 2 LBs/1 LB+1NB playing off and only 4/5 pass rushers with a spy once in a while.

That's exactly what we are running.

We/Boyer/personnel/preparation just aren't very good at it yet though.

If we can get Al-Shaahir in FA to replace Roberts and lower Baker's and Riley's snap count that would definitely go a long way towards transitioning.

IMO we practiced Flores's/Boyer's/BB's D in the offseason and then McDaniel chimed in and asked Boyer to run the Fangio 6. That's why the D looks weird.

We need to run the “Boyer 12” which involves having 12 men on the field but not ever getting caught. Then perhaps we can limit these running QBs

The best thing about this scheme is you can get away with sub par CBs. So, we could move on from X and Jones. We do need at least 1 starting LBer, though.

The team is most likely not as down on themselves as some of the people on this forum.

I also guarantee you that there is zero discussions about having Vic Fangio come on board except here.

The team is on a 3 game winning streak and just picked up a premier DE for the home stretch in hopes of making a deep playoff push.

They’re obviously more optimistic about their chances than all the experts on this forum. But what does the team know…

I don't pay close enough attention to know what scheme they're running but its fairly obvious that the linebackers have a tough time tackling and outside Phillips there hasn't been anyone on the front 4 that can consistently beat his man. I don't know that it matters what you're running if you can't get pressure on the QB or tackle the ball carrier.

I actually don't know how much worse they are than in the past. This defense lived off of turnovers and negative plays the last couple seasons and hasn't been getting either this year. How much of that is coaching and how much is the ball bouncing your way?

My problem is Mia has roughly as many sacks this year as in the 1st 5 games last year and that's with adding Ingram/Chubbs. Yes, I'm aware of db injuries and Chubb has played one game, but , IMO, the pass rush isn't even getting as many hits and hurries. That's a BIG surprise to me. Given the pass rush talent, I'd expect similar #s to last year, minimum.
I think Mcd influenced the D by adding talent - he is the one who OKs acquisitions. And I expect he's the one who decides on general scheme - 'increase blitzes, play prevent. Short of that, I don't know of much influence.

What is happening is that the defensive line is losing it's gap integrity, Ogbah is going wide and staying wide instead of pushing the offensive lineman into the pocket, Baker is ok but he's on the ground too much, Raekwon is not doing a damned thing and he's being controlled quite easily, Wilkins is playing better but he is not making his presence felt throughout the game. Boyer needs to be terminated because he waits too long to make defensive adjustments.
