So as I understand it we are waiting for the 1st round pick too settle his contract with his team so we can go ahead with Ronnie Brown? Is that true? Seems kinda silly but I guess he has too see what the other guy gets? I thought this was already a done deal. Does anyone know what Ricky is supposed too get? Was just wondering and I hope we can afford what we need.

It's not about how much money, it has to also work with the cap. You have to figure out the scale of the pay for the 2005 draft. Every year the numbers go up, and the #1 pick gets the scale.

Ricky's agent thinks that the previous contract will be in effect...which would be for around 3.7million this season. The Dolphins think the language of the contract says that Ricky's salary reverts to veteran minimum due to his breach.
They will probably meet somewhere in the middle.

What is the vet minimum? I was talking to someone about this the other day and didn't know what it was. And what about the 8.5 mil he owes us?

Depends on how long a player has been in the league. For a player with 4-6 seasons like Ricky(2years w/NO, 2 w/Miami), the vet minimum would be $540,000.

As for the 8.6mil....Ricky still owes it if the Dolphins choose to pursue it. However, that money will have no bearing on the salary cap...it simply goes into Waynes pocket.

Thanks

I know it has no bearing on the salary cap, but can the Dolphins just choose, if he comes back, to let it go? Isn't he responsible for paying it, no matter what? I'm confused about that.

the dolphins can do whatever they want... most of their leverage comes from the fact that they can waive that money if he plays....
