How much of Ray Lucas' failure had to do with Wannstedt?

I believe Wanny was responsible for a great deal of the failure of Ray Lucas to manage games in 2003. People like to villify Lucas and make him the scapegoat as to why we didn't make the Super Bowl (or even the playoffs) in 2003. I think this is a little unfair. Now I will be the first to admit that Ray Lucas for the most part played horribly in 2003. You were scared to even see him take the snap at times. But did anyone remember back in 1999 when Vinny Testeverde and Rick Mirer were hurt, a little known and very green QB/special teams gunner named Ray Lucas took over and managed the games for the Jets very well. Why was this? I believe it was because Bill Parcells is a good coach and gets the most out of his quarterbacks. Hell, Lucas even sliced and diced our defense on a Monday night game in 1999. The difference was that Parcells and his staff knew how to coach a QB and Wannstedt and Co. did not. I'm not saying Lucas is free from blame. Just to think about this the next time you're making a Ray Lucas voodoo doll.

Why do you think Marino retired when he did? Wanny ruined every QB that was on the Dolphins not named Feidler. He never gave them enough time in training camp, called terrible plays, and gave them no blocking. Its almost like he sabotaged them in favor of his precious Feidler.

Greise, Lucas, and Feeley (and Huard?) could sue Wanny for destroying their carriers. All of them did well outside of Miami, but turned into laughing stocks under Wanny. Feeley (and the rest of the team) showed incredible improvement once Dave the anchor was removed.

Its a good thing Brees wasn't drafted by Wanny, he would have been ruined too or at least left as a free agent as quickly as he could.

LMAO...

Not drunk, just tired. Thinking about the potential franchise QB we may have tomorrow made me flashback to the dark years of Wannstedt.

I'm definitely psyched about tomorrow.

In probably had a lot to do with Wannstedt, but Lucas didn't even play all that badly.

Lucas had a QBR over 95 in three of his 5 starts....over 100 in two of them.

We haven't had a QB post those kinds of numbers since Dan.

Lucas got vilified for his first start against buffalo,in which he was horrible, and then everybody completely ignored what he did after that.

He wasn't as nearly as bad as what he was made out to be.

Especially Huard. He had good numbers, and Dan Marino specifically said that Damon Huard would be a great successor. Unfortunately, Wannstedt was hired at the time.

Thinking the same. Why else would he post this in the College Football sub-section?

I liked Ray Lucas, but he was not a franchise QB.
