Should our D be as good as we expect it to be this year I think it is safe to assume that Mike Nolan will be a HC candidate next year for a few teams. He will most likely land one of those jobs as well. He was also thinking of leaving this year for Dallas, but Sparano convinced him to stay. So I ask, How much will losing Mike Nolan hurt the D?

Personally I think (as a lot do) that the NFL is a coaches league and the loss of Mike Nolan will def set our D back a bit. At the same time I dont know who we would end up hiring and he may be a good DC, but Nolan is a top 3 DC in the NFL behind Dick LeBeau and maybe Rex Ryan (I guess hes technically a HC, but he calls the D plays).

It will be HC of the Dolphins, unless the team does well this year.

I would love to have him as our HC if we get rid of Sparano.

But I am posting this under the premise that we have a successful season and Sparano stays.

he was going to go to dallas this year? as far as i know you can only go to another team as a coach (under contract) if you are making an upward move i.e. if he was going for a head coaching job. you cannot leave for a lateral job unless you are ok'd by your current team.

Exactly my thoughts. If this season doesn't go well and Sparano is fired, Nolan is the logical choice to take the reigns. But also, keep in mind, Nolan has the stigma of being a failed headcoach, that's something that is hard to shake in the NFL. His best season as a head coach was 7-9, not to mention the fact that he was fired mid-season. I think Nolan will be cautious about taking another HC position, especially if he has a good gig here.

It was just a rumor that was going around and I guess it was when he thought Sparano was no longer goin to be our HC. ( http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/01/13/about-that-mike-nolan-to-dallas-rumor/ )

His fate was written with the Alex Smith pick basically, but he really built up that D when he was there. Bill Belichick was once a failed HC as well in Clev. I dunno I think he deserves another shot.

Sparano didn't convince him to stay, Nolan wanted to remain under Sparano. He was only looking at jumping to Dallas if Ross replaced Sparano. That is telling.

I don't see Nolan returning in 2012 unless it is as head coach. Teams will be calling both on the NFL and college level for him to be a head coach. If Sparano is fired, Nolan will not want to return under a different head coach. This is his last season in Miami imo. He is one of the best defensive coordinators in the league and will be a big loss.

Can't Ross lock him up with a long term deal by making it worth his while?? I understand that a head coach likes to pick their own staff however a talent like Nolan isn't a dime a dozen.........

Ya kind of like what Jerry Jones did with Jason Garrett and paid him like a HC to keep him as his OC. Thats a good idea, it not my $...lol

All I know is last season i took over all the Defensive playcalling in Madden and went 16-0.
I am not saying but I am just saying.
Chubbs

Maybe he doesn't want to be a head coach again, à la Dick Lebeau or Rob Ryan. It's certainly a less stressful & public job & I'm sure Nolan isn't in dire need of the money.

Man I almost had a heart attack when I read the thread title!!!!!!
I thought something happened today that I did not know about. Phewwww thank God he is still here!

yeah, i thought he was gone already too, [removed by Mod]. when your flawed logic hypothetical hasn't happened yet you type 'WOULD losing' not 'WILL losing'.
