Losing Nolan would be catastrophic for this defense.

Mike Nolan took a PAUL PASQUALONI defense and made it into a Top 10 unit. Aside from the addition of Karlos Dansby we still have all of the same guys from 2008-2009.

This thread scared the hell outta me when I saw it.

I'm editing the misleading thread title.

Before Denver hired Nolan they were ranked in the very late 20's and early 30's in the majority of their defensive standings. After they hired Nolan they jumped up to 7th ranked defense(or somewhere in that ballpark). After he left, they went back to the bottom of the league and had a 4-12 season. Admittedly having McDaniels as a coach and while also losing Elvis Dumervil hurt them badly, but most teams can win with a strong passing game and strong defense. Denver missed the strong defense part and just fell apart.

Losing Nolan would be a devastating setback....but one that seems inevitable. He did make noise about leaving if Sparano is fired this past offseason, and in all likelyhood Sparano is toast next offseason. One way or another, when we bring in a new staff Nolan is likely gone. That will be a big blow, as you can only count on one hand the number of defensive coordinators that are his caliber.

Sporano gets replaced by Nolan mid season, and he (Nolan) takes over next year with a BIG Contract.

Should our D be as good as we expect it to be this year I think it is safe to assume that Mike Nolan will be a HC candidate next year for a few teams. He will most likely land one of those jobs as well. He was also thinking of leaving this year for Dallas, but Sparano convinced him to stay. So I ask, How much will losing Mike Nolan hurt the D?

Personally I think (as a lot do) that the NFL is a coaches league and the loss of Mike Nolan will def set our D back a bit. At the same time I dont know who we would end up hiring and he may be a good DC, but Nolan is a top 3 DC in the NFL behind Dick LeBeau and maybe Rex Ryan (I guess hes technically a HC, but he calls the D plays).

Right now, I'd say it's 50/50 that he ends up either a candidate for the job here, or interim coach mid season. Ross has already begun searching for his replacement, no matter what he says publicly. Shame.. but that's the way it is...

All I know is last season i took over all the Defensive playcalling in Madden and went 16-0.
I am not saying but I am just saying.
Chubbs

Okay tell the truth how many games did you "restart"?

well no matter what Nolan will probably not be our defesnive coordinator next year. If we do well he probabaly gets a head coaching job, we suck and he either gets job or has to go elsewhere so might as well get used to it.

Nolan could be a good Head Coach as long as he kept his hands off of the offense and let the Offensive Assistant Coaches handle that side of the ball.

It would be as devastating to our D as it would be great for our OL to lose TS.

We should not even be thinking about stuff like this.
