So now that Wake got signed, i see some people in the media saying we had plenty of room to sign both wake and the rookies, and others saying we now need to clear an additional 3 mil. or so.
For any interested, I did some research and found a great little article on how the rookie's work in regards to a cap - basically, since most the rookies will not be paid much, and since each rookie who fits into the "top 51 salaries on the team" automatically knocks a vet out of the top 51, and they offset to an extent, the rookies actual cap hit is not going to be nearly as much as their hit on the "rookie pool" Overall, signing all the rookies will not take a huge chunk of cap space in general. it is possible we could have signed wake and the rookies and still be fine - of course extending long may save some money etc and camp cuts remain to be seen. very good article though check it out:
