The Dolphins have performed excellently in the draft recently, but their free agency acquisitions as of late have left much to be desired. That’s going to need to change if the Dolphins are to remain competitive with the AFC’s other top units. With over $30 million in cap space this is how Miami should spend their money.

1. Make a Splash at the Linebacker Position
No good defense without good linebacking corp. Period. As was painfully apparent throughout the season, especially last week, the Dolphins’ linebacker unit is among the worst in the entire NFL. In fact, of Bleacher Report’s seven worst 4-3 outside linebackers, four were Miami Dolphins.

2. Re-Sign Kenny Stills
Losing Kenny Stills and his 9 TDs wil be devastating to Miami's offense.
This season, Kenny Stills re-established himself as one of the league’s premier deep threats. His physical speed coupled with his ball skills, body control and mastery of deep routes was integral to the success of the Dolphins’ offense.

3. Bolster Interior O-line with Veteran Talent

The interior O-line is among the positional units that figure to see the most change this offseason. Mike Pouncey is always injured, Jermon Bushrod is a 32-year-old free agent, and Laremy Tunsil could (and should) make the move to left tackle to replace the old/injury prone/not very good Branden Albert.

4. Improve Secondary Depth, Particularly at Safety

The secondary’s lack of depth was thoroughly exposed against quality competition like the Patriots and Steelers, and it is in need of a serious overhaul in the event of injury to any of the starters

5. Find a Reliable Pass-Catching Tight End

A great tight end would improve the passing game in the middle of the field and could potentially mitigate the loss of Kenny Stills if he leaves for greener pastures. Hopefully, an addition like this is a luxury rather than a need, but things are never easy in the NFL.

Good points. Also need edge rush to supplement, and eventually replace, Wake and strong PoA DT to add to the rotation

I don't think we need to make a big splash at the LB position - I think it needs be addressed in both FA and the draft (ideally more so the draft) but I do NOT think another Dansby, Ellerbe, Wheeler contract is necessary. We need to extend Kiko at a fair rate (but the dude is going to get paid) so we need to use a 1st-2nd-3rd round pick on a stud LB and get a couple decent ones in free agency.

We don't need to SPEND big on a LB in free agency but we do need to INVEST in one from the draft. Big difference.

For critical need position like LB I'm in total agreement here. Don't address the need at only one level. Absolutely address the position in FA and the draft. Let's make sure we fix it by hedging our bets.

The last thing i want to see this off season is another splash. No "splash" trades up in the draft and no "splash" overinflated deals in FA... Can we please just do "Solid" and build on what we have for the future?

With TannenBUM making decisions, it won't shock me to see him make or at least attempt to make some big splashy moves and trades.

This year they did do great at 1 and 2. Caroo is the head scratcher. Drake I can see as a KR and good 3rd down back of the future. Overall though the drafts have been spotty.

They need to dump Misi, you can't go into the season relying on him. I say you add a good guard, one linebacker and a defensive end. and one depth safety. Draft two linebackers a defensive end a guard and a center.

1. Not sure about splashing at this position but Timmons or Zach Brown would work with Jarrad Davis as our 1st round pick

2. Have to find a way to bring him back at least for the short term. If/when Parker's time comes for a contract then we may look at trading Stills

3. This is the position to make a splash at with Zietler/Warford/Leary. This would go a long way in helping our defense if Ajayi will be the workhorse on offense and actually get some running lanes to the right side. The ability to keep our offense on the field and wear down the opponent's defense will help take pressure off our defense. Should bring Bushrod back as RG depth and have Urbik as depth for Pouncey and Tunsil.

4. If Maxwell and Howard will be the starters in 2017 then I don't think they make much of an attempt at the secondary with Lippett there and with how our DE situation looks. Jones and IAQ with Aikens and Thomas as a solid special teamers....maybe add Jadar Johnson on day 2 or 3 since he is a Miami fan? Definately could use another body there or and upgrade at slot.

5. Unless Howard is there at 22 for us then we will get a TE somewhere in rounds 2-4. Hodges or Sprinkle will be the guy

I honestly think the Safety position is OK next year if you have Jones and Abdul-Quddus back from injury and 100%. Quddus was having a career year before he went down and Jones is Jones. That leaves Aikens and one other as a backup. So Safety is lower on my priority list.

TE is also in good shape if we get Sims back, this offense is not geared around a TE so spending big bucks on one is a bit foolish. If you go into camp with Sims, Gray and maybe another two TE's who are speedier you should be OK a guy like Levine Toilolo can be had in the late rounds and wouldn't be seem threat but he would be a nightmare in the red zone.

To me 1) and 2) is Linebacker I don't care if it is ILB or OLB but we need them, two of them to be honest. If you take an ILB and move Kiko you still need another outside backer. So 1 and 2 is Linebacker.

The 3rd priority is O-line, it seems like every year it is the line play or I guess lack of line play due to injury that makes a difference. Albert isn't a spring chicken, Pouncey hasn't had a full season since his 2nd year and oh by the way there is still a need at guard.

4th is depth depth depth.........it killed us because the injury bug bite us good this year. Starters to go down: Misi, Pouncey, Jones, Quddus, Howard, Maxwell, Albert, Tannehill, Cameron, Jenkins, Mitchell......that's 11 starters during the year who missed games and that's not even counting guys like Mario and Foster who were penciled in as starters and couldn't make it.

We cannot afford to have Landry hold out. He has been a good soldier for three years. Extended him even though it will cost 11-12.5 per year.

I disagree with resigning Jenkins. He just is not with the money.

If it wasn't for the vast amount of holes on the defense, I Think TE would be a priority, but it falls far behind LB, DE, DB depth, and G. It is unfortunate as this looks to be a very deep TE class...shame we won't have that other 3rd round pick, something is going to slip through and be there.

With that said, I think you can live with what you have for another year...Sims is an important resign...I will bang that drum until it happens, an excellent blocker with pass catching ability. I remember how much we miss Fasano when he was gone, don't want it to happen again. The othe rplayers we have in house should be able to fill in the rest.
