I'm new so this is my first post, but the one thing that really bugs me about these Dolphins is the poor O-line play. We cant seem to get any points on the board this way and the QB is getting sacked. granted, DC is also to blame for holding the ball too long. But even then, the line doesnt help and thats gotto change. Furthermore the runing game could use a boost. Ronnie has been a stud, in my book, but he isnt getting the holes that he needs. While Ricky was around the 2 of them would really splice things up and it was an abslute joy to watch. Now we employ a couple of fullbacks, that cause no offensive havoc. I really hope either Ricky comes back next year or we get a second RB treat to pair up with Ronnie cause with the fullbacks we are not going to put up any points on the board.

So here is how I see it, feel free to disagree

1. If we get a line the O will improve. As of right now we have no center. We really need a good center, to help stabalize the line, not named Hadnot or McKinney. I wished we picked up Mawea last offseason. But we definately need one now. Get one and the line will look something like this

lt shelton
lg james
c
rg hadnot
rt carey

2. No more FBs. 2 RBs in the backfield like before. Ronnie Ricky springs to mind. More running game treat. Control the clock, tempo of the game etc.

3. With the line improved i think we can finally see better QB play, and with McMike not having to block on that line he can once again become a third target in the passing game to Booker/Chambers. So we will have great options giving us a chance to win once again

Lastly, I realy think this team could be 9-7 again next year. The only thing i am worried about is wheter we have the picks on draft day to execute. If not, Nick is going to have to get creative but i am sure he can turn us
around. Ha, that feels better .....

But what do the rest of the Dolphinfans think?

Good first post. The OL is definitely a big issue, and has been neglected in the draft for quite a while. We need a good center and probably a good LT, IMO.

Personally, I think we need a cornerstone LT before a C. Hadnot has done a fine job, but with all the flux at the RG position this year, he's not had the chance to get used to blocking next to that RG, and his line calls may shift based on who is there/what their abilities are. Though you do raise a solid point in that he moves well enough to be an effective guard as we saw in 2005.

Interested to see where Toledo will end up.

If he's an OT, G, or C.

Mckinney and Hadnot should battle it out next year for a roster spot. But we should get rid of one of them.

I think we should sign a veteran interior lineman and drop James though.

LT should be a re-signed MacIntosh next year with us drafting one to groom if Toledo ain't it.

We should keep Shelton at RG and Carey at RT. Alabi could stay as a backup OT.

we can get a guard in FA to replace Jeno

maybe get a tackle and/or center in the draft

if a LT is the BPA for us in the first round next year then that would be awesome

Agree with you on the center and the disappointment in not picking up Mawae this offseason who in my opinion would've been an upgrade and would've allowed Rex to stay at Guard where we had so many depth problems, might have had a couple of different results in some of the closer games, but who knows.

Dmac is a solid backup tackle, but LJ has been relegated to RG where he may be better suited, so I don't think we're quite settled at LT although Dmac is not entirely terrible, but not a dominant franchise left tackle. Personally, I'd like to se us draft either a Left Tackle, Right guard (if someone like Blaylock is available) or even a stud center if one is available in the first round if we don't get a chance at someone like Calvin what's his name, that 6'5 receiver out of georgia tech who runs a 4.3 40. It doesn't look like there's alot available in free agency on the O tackle position this year except for that bloke from Pittsburgh who will probably be resigned by them.

With regards to Ronnie Brown, the best way to judge is yards per carry which are decent. I'd like to see him get more carries, and would like to see how he would do in a better over all offense. I mean, our passing game isn't scaring anyone either thus allowing the defense to sick 8 men in the box on early downs. I'd also like to seem Mularkey/Saban change the offense this year to more of a smashmouth thing, just because Harrington doesn't seem as comfortable with the deep ball as Duante when he's healthy and Gus Ferotte who had success here last year. All of these things in addition to poor blocking make it unfair to say that Ronnie brown is a bust especially when despite all of this the guy still has a 4.2 yard per carry average (career) and 3.8 this year which isn't that bad and is comparative with Ladanian Tomlinson for example...

I think we agree on alot of things, but my point was never Ronnie is a bust. I kinda like him, like him alot. But it was that due to poor blocking Ronnie isnt getting enough holes to run trough and it has hurt his numbers a bit. We play with fullbacks to get more blocking, which i think we shouldnt do, period. But because of poor blocking on the line, are forced to do. He is doing what he can right now, and if we get the blocking down we will see an much better Ronnie, the real Ronnie if you like. But again, the line is to blame, if there is no room to run.

OL is set at C, RG and RT.

question is Toledo/Alabi/Berger future...that will determine what we do at LT and LG. James is gone. McIntosh is great depth.

QB is set. that was taken care of this offseason. With daunte's investment and contract he's not going anywhere so soon. i'd imagine unless there is a 3rd/4th round pick trade offer for joey he will remain as the backup.

the biggest diffrence will be no more mularkey. that will do wonders for this offense.

He will end up on the IR, he cannot remember the last time he played a full season.
