It's hard to take anything you write seriously when you can't spell "strategy".

Great 4th post, it really added to the thread. This isn't english class!

Another factor is that we have not been a team that throws deep. And when we have thrown deep, the other team has not had to worry too much about completions. That means with the defense not stretched out, there are more defenders in less space, which means more INTs. That's part of this thing with Frerotte. It doesn't matter if he throws deep but can't complete any of them. You have to be effective throwing the ball deep in order to get the defense to adjust.

Plus if you know you'll never have the oppurtunity to go deep and quickly score then you have the mind set that every little play needs to count.

I just read the thread title,a nd all that came to my head was: 'let me count the ways.."

Why does playing not to lose always seem to result in loses?

It's a mind set that goes along with playing conservative to a fault.

People should remember last year when headlines were things like "Who will be the O coordinator?" "Team doesn't understand offense.." Offense looks woeful in camp" things like that.

Now we have a real coordinator. Enjoy watching a real offense.

Ain't that the truth! I think you get what you focus on and Wanny clearly thought his team wasn't going to be able to dominate or he wouldn't have come up with the "play not to lose" mantra. So if your head coach thinks you're marginal, you will play marginally. When you play not to make mistakes, you will make mistakes because that is what the focus is on. There's got to be some confidence and swagger or you will play up to the level the coaches think you are capable. And in Wanny case that was obviously not much, either because he thought his players weren't capable of more or he knew his coaching wasn't.....
