Exactly. I see a lot of posters here are criticizing the number of screens we threw. We only went to that when we realized our typical quick slants and mid range darts weren’t going to work. Years past we would have pressed the issue. McCoach adjusted brilliantly and not a coincidence we out scored them 20-3 after the adjustment in play calling. They have plus plus talent upfront and very tacklers.
I liked that we adjusted and it paid off we kept churning the clock and their défense was suffering late when we fresh legs in the backfield
Weaver’s second half adjustments which led to a shutout after allowing a 97? yard drive in the first half…… A+++
Would be a tad concerned about the run D (especially interior) going forward but the secondary and pass rush will be fine. We did well creating pressure today considering JP’s first game back ahead of schedule, and without Chubb.
The screens were not only in the second half mate. There was actually a good dose of mid range stuff as well that looked to be more rust because they weren't working. The adjustment wasn't more screens, it was getting Tua going on deeper passes and some run penetration that made it start working. I just watched the All-22 and while the screens werent as many as I originally recalled live (there were a bunch of pitches that get lumped in) there were still far far far too many. And I don't recall a single slant the entire game which is odd.Exactly. I see a lot of posters here are criticizing the number of screens we threw. Right - we used the screens early too w some mild success. There were a lot of pass plays where the first option wasn’t there and you could tell the play had no chance once Tua had to hesitate. As you said, we went away from that and let some longer developing plays happen where he could go though progressions (the bombs to Hill and Waddle were like that), used the run. What I liked is we adjusted. The bread and butter quick passing game didn’t work right out of the gate - the Jags were on it. As we adjusted, Tua’s comp% went up, the yards went up and the points went up. Good stuffThe screens were not only in the second half mate. Only because the forward pass wasn’t working early. In years past, he would have kept forcing it.Really like his creativity but being three years as HC I find it interesting that we still need to ask this question. Don't understand his game plans at times and see slow evolution in areas that I would think should be cleared up by now. We had something like 17 passes behind the O line ????
think C, C- ...
But we did win and thats the name of the game ( at least this game )
I'm not really sure I saw much of an adjustment as far as the play calls went tbh. There were still screens, still runs up the middle, still a couple mid range strikes, a couple deep attempts/completions. I didn't note any real change in play calling per sae. What I did see was Wilson infusing new energy and strength in those up the middle runs pulling the LB's back towards the middle to contain then opening up way more opportunites. The Jags were starting to get tired and our deep bench of RBs started to really get to work.Right - we used the screens early too w some mild success. I agree the Jags defense were shutting us down. I’m just saying I think it’s more from a lack of play execution than play design. If by defense dictating what they should do you mean blowing them up the entire first half then yeah, they were dictating what we should do.
