Would anybody else be happy if we traded one of our extra 1st rounders in to an extra 2nd/3rd this year and got an extra first next year. Every year keep trading the extra first until you can’t keep turning that extra first into extra draft picks? If we did it for say 5 years they could be an extra 5 2nd or 3rd round picks

No. I wouldn't be mad at all, depending on who was available at the pick we traded. I wouldn't be surprised to see us trade if we find a trade partner willing to pay what we want.

It would actually be smart business. I wouldn't be upset if they moved one of their later first round picks, but the problem is we don't know how they plan on addressing the QB position. They may need the extra draft resources to move themselves into position for a QB if they keep winning games.

The book on drafting has always been, if you trade an asset, you get a pick one round higher next year.

e.g. you give a 2021 1 to get a 2020 2.

This is one reason why I can see us trading down, rather than trading for picks next year.

We can trade the Saints number 2 we got in the trade down, for a number 1 next year!

Not really. In most trades you also get to keep the trading partners first round pick. I.e. KC traded for Mahomes and the Bills received the KC's 1st round pic + an additional 1st round pick the following year and a 3rd round pick.

The value largely depends on which 1st round pick you trade and with who (how far do they have to trade up). If there is only a trade up of a handful of spots outside the top 10 you most likely only exchange first round picks and get some 2nd rounders, 3rd rounders etc.

Even if you look at the Jets/Colts trade for Darnold. Jets and Colts traded 1st round picks and the Colts got three additional 2nd round picks.

If you want to have an additional 1st round pick for 2021 you have to find a trading partner who is in need to jump a bunch of spots (i.e. KC which jumped 17 spots).

All of what you said is true... I just gave the 'in general' value of a pick.

Your analysis went quite a bit deeper and I can accept that.

I could see trading back a couple times in the 1st and 2nd. I can also see using several of the later round picks to move back into the 4th/5th range.

If Grier doe not have the warm fuzzies for any QB not named Burrows, trade Miami's # 1 for additional picks this year and an additional # 1 next year. Draft Lawrence or Fields next year.

This is correct. Most of the time you just swap first round pick plus you get an extra pick for moving down. Say we move down from the 20th pick to like the 28th pick......then we'd probably get that team's 1st round pick in 2021 plus a 3rd in 2020. When you move down in the first round you always want the other team's 1st round pick the next year plus a pick this year. Of course it depends on how far down you move.

Another thing you can do is move down in the first and get a pair of 2nd round picks but you're still drafting in the first also.

no tua should immediately mean we try to trade one of our firsts to move back and get more ammo next year.
