How we ran on the Pats

The Bills have a pretty good DL, so this is going to be a good test. It is going to be interesting for me tomorrow to watch how we handle them.

Another thing I didn't go into much was James...he was really good. He did a lot of "small things", like when he knew a guy was out of the play he would disengage and go hunting for another block. I think that kid may have been a really good pick!

Agree on James but, he did make some mistakes in giving up a QB hit and 3 hurries. He is only going to get better.

It is going to be interesting to see what they do when Pouncey returns. I've heard people talk of lots of options.

Barring something unforeseen, he starts at center, and Samson is a backup.

The Bills actually ranked pretty poorly against the run last season and there isn't really any reason to believe they'll be better, and thats considering they got to play us twice. They were a top 5 defense based mostly on their pass defense, and again, getting to play us twice helped them there too. Its going to be really interesting to see how they react to what they saw of our offense. And how we plan to attack knowing they'll probably try to go all out to stop the run first and foremost. Will we stay with it or just come out guns a blazing? Lazor is going to earn his paycheck this week.

Great analysis. Gee it makes a difference when you have some players on the O-line who can make a contribution. It will only get better when Pouncey returns.
Interesting observation re the reactivity of the Pats LBers. Belichick has plenty to work on.
Some may conclude that Belichick was outcoached on the day.

No. That is just an illusion.

There is a coaching completion and there is also accuracy within that completion. Belichick may have missed the coaching completion but he was very accurate in the completions he made.

And plus, he's a hall of fame coach. Years of secret videotapes had nothing to do with his success. Patriots coaches are just plain better than the Phins, no matter what your eyes tell you.

Phins need to prove themselves as a team anyway. NE has nothing to prove. Therefore they were the better team just by showing up. And everyone should recognize it.

Tannehill and the Dolphins' coaches just got really lucky. Dolphins coaches were horribly inaccurate within their coaching completions. It's a miracle on par w. the Lady of Lourdes that Phins got enough points to win. NE was owning the accuracy within completion stat.

They should have a pretty good DL...Not sure about their LB's though.

I think he was out-coached, or simply wasn't ready for what he was going to see. I think when we play them again, things will be a little different.

Moreno is very patient and reads his blocks better than most Dolphin backs I've seen. He lets the blocker get out in front and engage, and then he attacks the crease. He's a very good, physical back. I believe we will run effectively on the Bills and also protect Thill. Wallace will have a big game.

Knowshon surprised me. After coming into camp over-weight and being injured for a good part of the time, I wasn't sure what to expect.

I think Knowshon surprised pretty much everybody. I wasn't down on the signing but was expecting more of a dependable type like Ronnie, not an electric type like Ricky.

I gave someone crap in another thread...so it was "put up, or shut up." I "put up"...;-)
that was exactly what I was thinking reading your post. Great thread!

It isn't just him either. It seems like just about everyone Hickey is bringing in is producing. I hope that trend continues...

Great Post buddy!!! Hopefully you will have a lot more "POSITIVE" posts like this every week :-)

Our guards are poor run blockers and our center gets dominated by 3-4 tackles. Our running game is going to suck...get ready for it.

So in your opinion, what would be the best strategy from the LBs in order to keep the run in chek without over-commiting. I think teams are going to run some sort of calculated run blitz and make sure they cover the midddle of the field while doing so.

I would run some defensive slants and move the LB's around pre-snap so that the line has a harder time determining their assignments. I would also do more run blitzing and bring the safeties down.

One thing I would not do is put any LB's on the slot. Lazor ate that up...

Yup pretty much. I hope to god Tannehill hits wallace deep at least once, not because I think the deep ball is all that important by itself, but because it pretty much takes away the "bring the safeties down" options from opposing ds...
