........... after I got out of the gym I was sitting at the nutrition shop where I get my shakes and I started talkin' football with a former strength trainer at Oregon State. He was there during Housh and Chad Johnson's tenures. He told me he couldn't stand Joey Harrington after I mentioned we were in the trade mix for him.

At any rate, he told me he didn't think that DC's deep ball was going to be the same because of that knee. It was a legitimate concern, considering how much the legs truly are involved in passing the ball. Anybody with knowledge of the subject have a perspective?

I dont think it's that big of a deal if he is able to properly run and plant.

I am more concerned about the mental aspect of DC's game. He has something to prove after a poor season, which could lead to a rushed comeback and attempting to do too much on the field. The converse is also possible, in that he could be timid, and be completely out of rythm without his legs fully under him, something he has always relied on in the past.

On the physical side, his knee should properly heal if given time, but don't expect his game to resume at the same level. He might get close, but every injury has at least some impact on a player's performance, and a knee injury like DC's is really bad. I expect him to have to make several adjustments to his game to compensate for his altered throwing mechanics...which takes us back to his mental state. Duante will have to be very determined and mentally disciplined to bounce back well.

i dont think it will affect him pretty much in a huge way...plus ...anything is better than feidler!!!!!! and frerotte wasnt awfull just not accurate on his long ball.....btw is mcnair a free agent??... did the titans get into a fight with him ( yelling)...i no they didnt let him work out in the training facility but???...anybody no?..if so he could be our backup???

I have zero concerns about Daunte, despite what the media has been reporting lately.

I think as long as he cant plant his left leg when he gets ready to gun it everything should be ok. He may not be able to run or move laterally like he use to, but DC is such a big guy that he can throw a lot of blitzers off of him, and I am sure most of his mobility will be there.

I have torn ACLs in both of my knees and did a lot of research on the knee ligaments and function of the knee. And based on my experience and research, I don't think that his deep ball will affected at all and this is why ... the ligaments limit travel of the knee, it is the muscles that surround the knee that provide strength and support. So, if Culpepper is able to properly rehab the knee (meaning that he builds the strength up in the muscles that surround the knee), then the muscles will do all the work and the ligaments won't be doing anything.

His deep ball would still be the best deep ball to arrive in Miami post- Dan the man.

Wow, I think that about answers it. Thanks, chuckcole.

I can vouch for this. About 3 months ago, I dislocated my kneecap, partially tearing the ligament that holds it in place. Even immediately after the injury, I noticed that I could still put weight on that leg and that the strength of the knee wasn't affected at all. Ligaments are there to provide stability, not strength.

I think the only thing that will be effected is his mobility. He won't take off and run as much anymore. He can still bomb it....:dolphins:

(He's not Brees)

It might have a slim affect at first untill he gets used to dropping back and planting but that will comer and go in a hurry and his deep ball will be fine, it's throwing it on the run if he has too or moving out of the pocket that will be more of a problem but still won't be that big of a deal.

Nice that had to suck but if what ur saying is true DC will do great

I think he maybe careful on it for a while until he feels comfortable, and confident that it will hold up, and then I expect him to return back to his old self.

It did suck, no doubt about it. I did do a lot of research on the subject though (by reading medical articles, journals, and of course, talking to my doctor) as I wanted to know exactly what was going on with my knee and what my options were. But, I am no doctor (and don't play one on TV either). So, I could use some confirmation from 'BoneDoc' if he gets online and happens to read this thread ...
