Effect the pomp and circumstance surrounding the opening of the newly re-done Hard Rock Stadium? Do you think it will effect the players on the field? A real tragedy! My heart goes out to the Fernandez family and the Marlins family.

Extremely tragic. I'm just shocked. I was a big fan. Loved his talent and story.

How very sad! I remember when this happened in the early 90's to a couple of Cleveland Indians pitchers out on a boat. My thoughts are with his family....

So so sad... Prayers to his family and the Marlins organization. RIP Jose. [emoji22]

Marlins have canceled today's game following death of P Jose Fernandez. Dolphins will play but have a moment of silence pregame.

Terrible, terrible news. Sincere condolences to Jose's family, friends, and the @Marlins organization

He was a terrific, upbeat and eminently likeable young man as well as a great pitcher. I'm close to tears. RIP Jose and heartfelt condolences to his family. Kinda makes the playing of games seem inconsequential.

I feel just as devastated as when I heard Sean Taylor died (my favorite Cane of all time). Both died at the age of 24. Only a year older than me.

He was my favorite baseball player. He would have been the greatest Marlins player of all time. Possibly with the South Florida legends of Marino and Wade. He was just discovering his potential. The sky was the limit.

While he was a great player, he was an even better person. He went through so many hardships in life. He was fun, energetic, caring, loving, and a hero. He rescued his mother when she fell overboard.

I just can't believe this.

By all accounts he was a really good guy, and he probably would have gone down as one of the all time greats

Death has a way of doing that to a person when it takes people out of what is normally the sequential order of life.

So terrible when bright promising young people go to soon. Life is fragile so enjoy the days you have.

Tragic.

I don't follow baseball at all, never heard of him, but that is horrible. I'm so sorry.

Wow... just... damn I can't believe it. He was my favorite player and would have been a Hall of Famer no doubt. Such awful news. A young man who was soon to be a father that went through a lot just to get to the States and get in the Majors. R.I.P Jose. You will be remembered always.
