On defense, I would like to see us cut Bell, and draft Mark Barron in the first. Cut W. Allen and S.Smith and sign FA Courtland Finnegan. By cutting bell and Smith, that would free some cap space to also sign Mario Williams. Defensive line id like to see us let Soliai walk and go with Starks and Odrick up front. This is just my opnion, what would you do?

Get another pass rusher on other side of Wake and catch the ball in the secondary for starts.

There are conflicting reports about what defense we are going to run next year but if we run out of a base 4-3 like many people believe then these are the things we need to do:

1.) Upgrade the pass-rush and find a pass-rushing DE- Wake will switch to a DE but we will need to add somebody to the opposite side, some options could be mario williams, robert mathis, cliff avril, or quinten coples. This will allow starks and odrick to switch inside and mcdaniels can rotate as well, look for us to add depth to that position maybe pat sims from Cincinnati.

2.) Find an upgrade to Koa Misi- Dansby will probably play inside and Burnett will play OLB, so maybe somebody like EJ Henderson or Anthony Spencer.

3.) Upgrade the secondary- Vontae is safe and has the ability to be elite if he keeps his head in the game, Smith is overrated and I would love to see upgrade at boundary corner, we also need a FS and Bell has to restrcute his contract or he will be a cap-casualty, Reggie Nelson is an option at FS, and we need a Nickel Corner as well, look for Jarrett Bush from GB to be an option.

Why are you cutting Sean Smith? He does not make that much money.

why would cut sean smith when you can trade him.. Atleast you'll get something back in return..

I'd like your plan a little better if we had a QB but we need to invest in one somewhere in the offseason.

I do not understand cutting S.Smith, the guy makes basically league minimum and has played well. I get the upgrade but why not keep S.Smith for Nickel/Dime or FS.

I also do not have a problem with YB, it's FS that needs a major upgrade if your going that route. Y.Bell needs to restructure if not then I would consider cutting him.

I would go hard core after DE M.Williams in FA, the front 4 would be freakin' nasty. He'd be real expensive but would put our defense to another level.

I would also love to trade back in the 1st and grab another 2nd, we need OL, MLB, and more receiver help.
Take your QB in the 1st with Tannehill or Weeden.
In the 2nd I'd be all over V.Burfict if he fell to play the MLB with Dansby and Burnett. This draft seems to have some decent depth at safety so you could look at your 2nd or 3rd for safety help.

Or let's float this idea.....

DE M.Williams in FA
DE Q.Coples in the 1st
Trade C.Wake for a late 1st or early 2nd - GB might salivate having Wake with C.Mathews and jump at the chance to get a guy with a dirt cheap contract.
MLB V.Burfict in the 1st
DT B.Thompson in the 2nd
S A.Allen in the 3rd

That's turning a 34 defense into a dominant 43 in a hurry, IMHO

8/9 is too high to draft Barron. I'd like to cut Bell, sign either a safety or two (Landry, Nelson, Branch, Griffin), sign a rotational NT (Red Bryant or maybe a Shaun Rodgers), and try to find another pass rusher. I think we should keep Merling. Ask McDaniels to restructure, and if he doesn't, ditch him. As for the pass rusher, maybe we look at Ahmad Brooks, or Anthony Spencer. As for Corner, I'd like to pick up someone to replace Will Allen. I think Tracy Porter would be a great investment. He didn't play great last year, and so won't likely get a ton of money, but is a good player, and could rebound.

imo, pass-rusher is the biggest need on defense. Mario Williams is proven but would be expensive and if they plan on signing a free agent QB, he is probably too expensive. Avril or maybe even Abraham would be good alternatives at a cheaper price. Couples and Upshaw both have a good chance of being available in the first so maybe you don't invest at all in FA for a pass-rusher
8/9 seems a little high for Barron(really almost any safety), but if you trade down, I could see it

Trade McDaniles, Sean Smith, and Koa Misi (unless he can be a good DE in the 4-3) and get picks in return. We need to upgrade CB, FS (Reggie Nelson) and find a true DE for the 4-3 (Coples, Mathis, Avril or draft). If we can find a good SS or restructure Bell then do so, because Bell is due a ton of money.

For all of you aking why I would trade Smith.....I would trade him because sucks, in my opnion. He drops too many sure ints, and we have Wilson waiting in the wings, who has shown some pretty good upside. He can play nickel.
