The Dolphins will spend today through the end of this week searching for a cornerback who might replace Reggie Howard in the lineup and perhaps on the roster.

Although no decision has been finalized, it is clear coaches are not satisfied with Howard's play -- particularly the past two weeks when he struggled against the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers.

Howard lost his starting job to rookie Travis Daniels after the New York game........

good replace the bum he's been playing like crap and he'll more than likely continue to do so

Who are we going to replace him with though? Is there any one out there worth picking up?

I think Howard has simply sold out. He got his big money when he came here and now does not care. He is riding it out as long as he can. That's just the way I see it.

That is why I wasn't that mad at RW for leaving. Football wasn't that important to him anymore so he walked away. That is okay to me. If you aren't feeling something, and aren't willing to give it 100%, dont bother doing it. RW could have sold us out, played poorly, gave half hearted effort and collected his big pay checks. Instead, he walked away from a lot of money. Most people wouldn't do that. They'd ride it out, like Howard is doing.

Of course, I could be wrong about howard and he is really trying hard. Giving 110%, spends extra time breaking down film, etc, and just isn't good. I just doubt that is the case.

Except the problem was,Ricky took the money with him, and we basically had to sue to recoup it, and that is why he is back playing now.I didnt have aproblem with Ricky quitting, that was his right and his choice, but I do have a BIG problem with how and when he did it.He could have told the team in the offseason, or at least early in training camp, even if he would have said, Im not sure, Im just considering the possibilities of retiring.

Then, we could have at least had our eyes open and looking around to find a possible replacement, but the way he did it, he let his team-mates down at that time.Ricky was a big part of our sucess, and to remove that piece at the last minute, hurt the team badly.

Dont get me wrong, I believe in forgiving and moving on, and I truly will be pulling for Ricky and the entire team, but that does'nt change the fact that Ricky was wrong in his actions last year about how he handled things.

Im not so sure RW took the money with him. I dont believe we gave him a 8 million signing bonus. Im not sure, however, im sure his agent let him know how it would play out if he retired like that. Im sure he told him 'you'll have to give back the cash' After B. Sanders was forced to do so when he retired, its pretty much understood you cannot retire and keep all the signing bonus given to you.

As for the timing when RW left, I think, he was trying to give Wanny and co the benefit of doubt. He wanted to see if things were going to improve from the prior year, and once he started going through training camp, he realized this team was heading in the same direction, if not worse.

I think, not wanting to live through a tough season like that, when you lack faith in the leadership (coaches) was a factor in his decision.

I am very glad to hear this. Wanny would have stuck with him the rest of the season.

Sweet. Finally.

I don't know if anyone still out there (Bobby Taylor, Terell Buckley) is worth a shot at this point, but I'd even rather see a kid making rookie mistakes, but learning and improving each game, than see Howard continue to stink the rest of the season.

I love the way Saban will sit you down if you do not perform.

That is how it should be.

With the bye week, the two new guys, Jackson and Thomas, should have a chance to learn enough to contribute. However, given how long its taken for veterans to learn the nuances of the Saban D, perhaps we shouldn't expect much from any new signee?????

What a refreshing change in philosophy. In the past we would have stuck with them through think and thin. Now, if you don't perform, you find a seat on the bench. I would not be shocked to see Howard gone before the end of the season if Nick can find anyone to replace him. Maybe when Will Poole comes back if he makes it.

i think you let daniels start, but really we dont have a better nickle back option than howard... we just have to make sure hes not left by himself covering a marquee reciever... none of our corners should be alone with a guy of steve smiths calibre...

daniels starts, howard as nickle... i really dont think thomas or jackson are going to perform any better than howard... hes a weakness we know that, but we have to gameplan and adjust better so that a team cant exploit him...

That's nonsense. I watched Howard all off-season long at TC, and I can promise you this guy isn't that kind of player. He's a hard worker just like the rest of them, and to say he doesn't care is just ignorance.....

I know he's struggled, but that doesn't take anything away from the effort he's put forward to get to where he is today. Let's not forgot we lost Surtain / Poole this off-season as well. Beyond Madison, Howard is / was the most experienced DB on the roster. He earned his spot, and now he's losing it because he's struggling in man coverage...

Trust me, it's not because he doesn't care. If he could have it his way, he'd be in position to pick off every pass thrown his direction. This is a tough position, and over the last two weeks he's faced Coles / Smith. Not an easy task folks.....

PHINZ RULE!!!
