How'd you handle the WR position next year?

Guys maybe, just maybe, Ireland is a horrible G.M. Took him five years to realize that he needed to a quarterback. And even then, he was "frustrated" to lose Garrard. That guy is all about self-preservation and nothing more. .

Did Ireland really realize he needed a QB?

or did the fan criticism become too great to ignore, with struggling ticket sales and a large drop in season ticketholders? What about media talking heads when they constantly brought up the fact that the Dolphins have not drafted a QB in the 1st round in almost 30 years, since 1983 ?

Did these things FORCE him to draft a QB in the 1st, or did he really learn it on his own?

well lets see the WR's from GB,
Greg Jennings - 2010 stats - 76 rec. - 1265 yrds - 12 td's
James Jones - 2010 stats - 50 rec. - 679 yrds - 5 td's
donald driver - 2010 stats - 51 rec. - 565 yrds - 4 tds
Jordy Nelson - 2010 stats - 45 rec. - 582 yrds - 2 tds

2011 stats -

greg jennings - 67 rec. - 949 yrds - 9 tds
james jones - 38 rec. - 635 yrds - 7 tds
donald driver - 37 rec. 445 yrds - 6 tds
jordy nelson - 68 rec. - 1263 yrds - 15 tds

how aquired -
driver - 1999 drafted 7th round (#237)
greg jennings - 2006 drafted 2nd round (52)
james jones - 2007 drafted 3rd round (78)
jordy nelson - 2008 drafted 2nd round (38)

as you can see the fins don't need to spend big for a FA, they need to keep drafting and building our WR units in too their system.
thats how contenders/champions are built. (steelers, patriots, texans) are a few more examples that you need to build through your system and not to morgage your house for one good season.

We'll have a decent amount of cap room, depending on who let go and all that. Question is....would you go out and get a #1 WR in FA and then draft a #2 WR in the 2nd round...or would you rather get a #2 WR in FA (and avoid paying $$$) and then use our 1st round pick on a WR?
HAHAHAHA there's a season to play and even when well known writers like James Walker claim Dolphins have the worst receivers in the league, I saw cool thing from Naanee, Wallace, and Pruitt during.
OK I also saw important mistakes from Wallace, but he looks like an option to produce.

It's still early and there's hope.

Who in the heck knows what we need at WR come draft time, it is really all a guess right now. We don't even know what we have because our WR have been coached by a band of idiots for the past several years. We may have some real talent and we may have a bucket of crap, I don't have a clue right now. That being said, we finally have a viable offense in place now that is pertinent to "today's" game. We may even, GASP, throw it on first down or something crazy like that!

Wide Receiver and secondary help need to be a high priority next draft!

You draft Keenan Allen of Cal........ Watch this......

simple, we will have close to $50 million in cap space and mando has already suggested were gonna target either dwayne bowe or mike wallace, both will be FA's.

That sounds like a lot of money until you realize how many contracts expire and who those players are. The majority of that $50 will probably be eaten up trying to retain the core of the team.

The first thing I would do is actually wait until next year to see what the options are. The idea of spending a #1 pick on a position like WR without knowing who will be available is silly at this time. Having said that, if Robert Woods is available when Miami is on the board that would not be a bad use of their pick.

perhaps ireland can only do udfa and let someone with a clue do the draft

Keenan Allen, Marquess Wilson, Aaron Mellette, Stedman Bailey...perhaps Justin Hunter.

In free agency you'll have to take a look at Mike Wallace because of what he can do to a defense. You'll also have to take a look at Dwayne Bowe because of his RAC ability. I believe Greg Jennings might be a free agent and you have to take a look at him as well for obvious reasons. Only other guy that I see (my list of FAs is probably very incomplete) that might pique my interest a little is Josh Cribbs and that's as much as a return guy as anything.

ha ha...josh cribbs probably starts at wr on our current unit...

if green bay dumb enough to let greg jennings get away i'd be on that like white on rice...screw bowe and mike wallace...odds he gets away slim to none and i'd say none

Im with electrolyte.

Good WRs can commonly be found in rounds 2-4. I would also spend 2 picks within the first few rounds on this position. Youre going to want to hope both turn out well.

Thing is, a lot of great WRs take a year or two after being drafted to develope. Id find out exactly where we are with the young guys on our roster.

Id roll into next season having kept the 3 best WRs from this season, drafting 2 WRs within the first 3 or 4 rounds, and sign a solid vet that you know you can count on to produce as at least a starter in the NFL.

Id also be willing to spend our 1st round pick on a QB if Tannehill is not the guy.
