What are we, like 3 or 4 for 40 or so in 3rds and long??? Equating Penny to a slumping baseball player, that would be like ARod batting under .100 with men on base. To underscore that, it's an expectation of failing 9 out of every 10 times at bat in such a situation!

Here's the point, ARod, even Pujols would be pulled after awhile under these circumstances, so (drumroll) why not consider putting Henne in, at least on some of these 3rd and longs where he can: a)stretch the field merely by the threat of his arm; b) zip the ball 10 yards across field on down and outs; c)line up as a better blocking WR in the wildcat, just like CP does; and/or d)hand off to R or R.

If a baseball player's in a slump, or the book on him is he can't hit left handed pitching or strikes out too often in clutch situations, you put in a pinch hitter.. so why not doing it selectively in this kind of situation?? How much worse can we do???

Just a thought.

converting 3&longs happen rarely and even if we put in henne, i don't think the success rate will be that much higher. Let pennington go get a few yards, we've got to get those anyway we can to win the "field position battle". Our special teams sucks so much i'm glad anytime we get a few yards before a punt (when the first down is unlikely that is... )

Nice idea but I do not think that will send a good message to the rest of the team. The chemistry of this team is good now, I just think Henne will have to wait another year or two before he gets any significant playing time. I can see him in mop-up work if we are ahead big, or losing big, but as long as Chad is healthy, he will be the man.

I like the idea although i think it would be too risky to place a rookie in in pass only situations. I think that Penny is good enough to get us out of those situations.

If we were 3 and 6 maybe but we aren't folks. Hell we should be 7-2 if the D makes a couple of key stops. We just have to find a way to stay out of 3rd and long. No one likes third and long obviously but swapping QB's for situations is a nightmare.

No thanks!

Even though in my mind its doubtful, in all honesty with the crazy personnel packages and formations we've been running under henning anything is possible. I've watched dolphins football rather intensely for the past 12 years and i've never seen a coach conduct an offense like this. Not under Gailey or even Turner. Hats off to Henning.

I'm sure its somthing the coaches have talked about. Somthing i've even thought about, but i've never had the balls to bring it up on the forums.

Idea is good in concept....stronger armed QB capable of throwing deep outs or squeezing it into a tight space. But it's near impossible to have any rhythm coming off the bench cold. It's the main reason even the best pinch hitters hit .200-250 in any given year in baseball.

It would make us definitely more unpredictable.

I wouldn't mind seeing it..not all the time, but every once in awhile would be good with me.

I'm still in awe with the 39 yard TD to Ginn where Penny threaded the needle between two defenders, I think the offense just needs to work on 3rd and long situations in practice more than they already do.

I like the idea, it also gets Henne some more experience. I mean 2 for 37 on 3rd and 7's. I don't care who gets their feelings hurt as long as I don't have to watch the same screen pass over and over again fall 3 yards short every time.

If Henne were a strong armed QB with at least some playing experience, maybe would be a good idea. To throw a rookie in pressure situations.. no, I don't want random interceptions.
