Does Houck teach his o line to cut block? This technique cost Larry Chester his season last year and I would get annoyed by being called a cheater whenever we win. I want to win just as much as everyone else. I am just curious if he teaches this. Thank you

No Houck is called a very patient coach who teaches excellent techniques, and works especially on a player's weaknesses. With Roman Oben last year he worked on his run blocking.

Good Question! I was wondering the same thing. Is he a zone blocking type of guy or what. Thanks for the Insight Jaj.

If I recall, Chester blew his knee out while more or less standing with his hands on the player in front of him. It could have beemn considered non contact I think. I thought it was a false step and he turned it.

Yes he uses zone blocking schemes, but I think he used to use man schemes maybe 10 years back?

Not sure about that one though...

Cut blocking properly, front on whilst the player is trying to get past you is mildly dangerous as they can brace themselves for the contact. On the other hand you have what Goerge Foster did to Tony Williams of the Bengals and cut him from the side of his leg whilst he was engaged with someone else. That is very dangerous. 300 pounds of weight coming down from an angle which would break a normal person's leg is not in the rules of the game.

and wouldn't the purpose of being a cutting blocking o-line be to have fast o-line men to roam sidelines cut blocking for the back ? we do not have that personnel I believe, and I would not want it.

Not really. I believe cut blocking is only legal within 3 yards of the line of scrimmage.

O, because that is what I remember learning about the Broncos offensive lineman.

They are fast because they need to get out on the play and block for the RB in their zone blocking scheme. Most of the cut blocks occur on the backside where the play is not even going. That is why people get annoyed a lot as well. Tony Williams was never going to make the tackle on the play anway and Foster was just really stupid and came in from the backside of the play and cut blocked him on the side of the leg whilst he was already engaged. Houck doesn't do zone blocking anyway so we won't have to worry about that.

i just hope the line improves because of all the $ we gave him

It will. Wise was a lousy coach. We would have been better off without a coach at all.

Actually I think he does...
