How come we aren't bashing this guy? Is he too holy? Is he immune because he was touted so highly? It is his responsibility to create cohesion amongst the offensive line. It is his job to make sure that the blocking schemes work with the players that we have. Instead the line is just offensive. BTW, if you hadn't guessed, I'm on the "It's not Daunte's fault" bandwagon.

I agree with you to an extent. I think he's got a good philosophy, just not necessarily the right people in place to run the philosophy effectively. The jury's still out on Alabi and Toledo, whom I believe Saban threw a bone to Houck with those two picks. But I think the line needs an injection of athleticism - whether that means smaller, younger lineman, I don't know...I'll give Houck the rest of this year to make something of the scrapheap we have now. We didn't come around early last year either, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. For now.

No...Its because he IS touted so highly....I agree it is his responsibility for production from the O-line. But, a man can only do so much.....You cant squeese blood from a rock.....The line is just not producing because of talent...Or lack thereof...

Maybe because we have gone through five right guards this season and our sixth Damion Macintosh is actually a Left Tackle.

A lot of people want to ignore the fact that Houck had a poor line playing pretty well toward the end of last year (remember the 6 game winning streak? anybody?).

Now we've made dramatic changes on our line and we have to start the process again. That's not something we are going to be able to do in the opening weeks (esp. against the Steelers).

I think people want to have faith in Houck.

Now go ahead, jump down my throat about how I'm blind, stupid, and making excuses. See if anyone can pull me off the bandwagon when a two game win streak would change every thread on the board.

I agree! It is his fault to an extent. Eventually the guys just have to perform. I also agree that the lack of specactular play from DC falls on the line. Yes he is holding on to ball too long, but for a QB coming to a new team and coming off of a serious injury he needs some extra time to have the confidence that he is making the right decision. Unfortunatly, he isn't getting that extra time right now.

the problem though is houck seemed to think he could get by with these guys and didnt try to get some better "rocks" when they were available.

We want to have faith in him, but I think we have too much at times. Yes he was able to rebuild San Diego's line, but those guys weren't scrubs off the street. Those guys were quality players. Right now our OL is castoffs from other teams. With the exception of some players. Mcintosh and James have to go. We need young guys with talent there.

And yes a 2 game win streak would turn this board around, but only if it comes in the next 2 weeks.

if we have scrubs and castoffs, wasn't it his responsibility to change it? i actually think he thought he was changing to better 'rocks' but he failed.

Said it in another thread. He does not get a free pass, but you can't make chicken soup from chicken **** either.

I agree that he can't suit up and play, we lack serious talent at the position, we've had injuries etc. etc., but the bottom line is that the responsibility for offensive line production falls on the individual position coach. He has to answer for their lack of production up to this point. I think that we all put a lot of faith in him before the season.

"Well, even though our line is made up of a bunch of nobodys and castoffs, we have the best o-line coach in the league, so we will be ok."

That is what people thought. If he is so highly skilled (rather than just highly touted), why are we sucking so badly right now? We could at least protect against the worst team in the league, right?

maybe because rex hadnot, jeno james, lj shelton and whoever plays rg really suck. not only do they suck, culpepper is not 100% and is having a hard time getting trid of the ball. if you recall last year gus got rid of the ball awfully quick, it wasn't like he had tons of time to throw. maybe next year nick saban can draft an offensive lineman with our top 5 pick and not a safety who will ride the bench the whole year.

As Gary Stevens once said " You cant make chicken salad outta chicken SH*T...." I think all the blame on this years dismal start falls squarely on the shoulders of our supposed " GENIUS " head coach.....
