Huge win! But MAJOR questions still remain...

Agreed with most of what you said. I want Philbin/Ireland gone. Keep Tannehill.

We aren't going anywhere with the Failbin/Fireland combo.

And they aren't going anywhere with Tannehill

Listen I understand where you are coming from ,however ,once the Bengals went on the long drive to start the 2nd half. Grimes pick off for a td. I knew the Bengals would drive down the field if we did not get a 3 and out. I watched the Jets play this Bengals team last week. The Bengals dominated both of their lines. Last night for the most part we dominated their lines, which after watching what they did to the Jets I never thought would be possible. We had 6 healthy o-line and they were all playing at the same time last night against a very physical team. I am very proud of this team a quality win where we showcased our players who are and can be special

I'm thrilled with the victory. Absolutely elated. I've been confident all week that we'd expose Dalton and prove that if you switched them places, Tannehill would put up bigger numbers behind that Cincy line with those weapons. I think Dalton's an absolute fraud.

The most important part of this victory is that the national media sharks will back off for a bit. Had we lost our 5th consecutive last night, we'd be hearing nothing but 'Big Weirdo' stories this morning.

As excited as I am, there are a few serious questions that still remain, in fact i'd go as far as saying that last night's game has added a few more questions i have for this team:

1. What's the deal with this draft class?
Unless Philbln has a blanket policy on rookies not playing significant minutes I'm extremely concerned. Let's hold off on Dion Jordan for a second and key in on our 2 DB's who were still on the bench when Patterson went down and Jimmy Wilson slotted in. Ummm, what??? You're telling me neither of these guys can beat out Jimmy Wilson on the edge? This is a major, major concern.

Onto Jordan... the guy played 24 defensive snaps last night (and 17 on ST). Let's not kid ourselves, he got that many views on defense because of how many we played overall. They have absolutely no intention of getting this guy on the field. WHY IS THAT? And more importantly, when he is on the field, why isn't he doing all that much? Top 3 picks should be immediate starters/impact players. I don't care how stacked your team is. A top 3 pick should immediately take over a position. I don't want to hear that it's because Olivier is playing so well. He's playing OK - but not great.

In a year where Ireland HAD TO hit on FA and the draft, he's struggled on both so far.

2. Our coaches are clueless

Guys, I'm sorry it has to be said. Philbin is clueless out there. Asleep half the time it would seem. He's not very good at adjusting at the half, terrible clock manager, etc. I just don't think he'll ever win the big one. Don't see it.

Sherman is even worse. It's like the guy wants to sabotage the run game or something. The fact that Daniel Thomas is even out there is mind blowing. With the way Lamar Miller ran yesterday, he should have had 20 touches, but again, he fell short. That was partly due to the fact that Thomas got some carries (with a whopping 3.2 YPC) and partly because Sherman once again abandoned the run game in the 2nd half.

The fact that Philbin hasn't intervened on play calling is disappointing and concerning. Maybe he has, maybe he was behind the heavy sets. But he sure as heck didn't intervene when Sherman sent Thomas in to run a stretch play that, shockingly, went nowhere. I mean come on, Thomas is slow as molasses. You honestly think he's getting to the edge???

3. Who goes/who stays?

Great we won, but that doesn't change the fact that dirty laundry was aired out this week. Someone went down internally. Aponte has someone by the balls. Not sure who. But this regime ain't getting along and someone has to go. I think Sherman is gone, given all the stories about the players questioning him. But perhaps Philbin goes too. Or Ireland. Or both of em. Who knows? The idea of Ross and Aponte doing interviews this off season has me horrified.

4. Could this O-Line be the most disastrous line in NFL history?

Look, these guys played a solid game. Really solid. They won the LOS. Losing Atkins obviously was a huge blow, but even with him in we ran well. However a few things to consider:

  1. Pushing for the sack record
  2. Clabo pushing for the individual sack record
  3. Our 2nd year Tackle stormed out because he's been bullied.*
  4. Our 3rd year Center has been subpoenaed in connection with one of the biggest sports stories ever

These guys turned it around last night. And to be honest I think they'll play much, much better with some better play calling. However it doesn't change the fact that this line has been an absolute **** show. Ireland should be fired for this alone.

* I want to touch on Martin for a second. Lots of different schools on this and to be honest I'm a bit torn. Bullying has become a major controversy these days that I struggle with. On the one hand, being bullied must suck. It must really feel like crap knowing that everyone's picking on you, and that you don't have a friend you can talk to. On the flip side, we've become WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too sensitive. Our ancestors would smack us in the mouths and tell us to man up.

This is a grown man. A 300 pound grown man at that. Confront your teammates if this makes you uncomfortable. Man up and speak your mind, tell them all to back down and move on. To just storm out is childish and immature.

5. Is Tannehill the guy?

He certainly played the part last night. No major mistakes to speak of, although he did miss some guys when he shouldn't have. But that's fine he's still a kid, learning the game. He makes some incredible throws when he needs to (See Hartline in the 4th) but he still goes through long periods where he does nothing. You rarely see the greats go 3 and out. Ryan's gotta to a better job of avoiding that.

I think he's going to be real good. Just needs some support around him.

Philbin Clueless? You realize we have had the lead in every single game with the exception of the Saints right ? How can that happen if the coaches are clueless. Yes, this team has major issues. Suspect playing calling by both coordinators, protection issues, and etc. But, aside from all the bad breaks we've gotten and all the bad calls, I think it's a little extreme to call Philbin clueless.

I finally watched my DVR tape of the game. Everything was virtually identical to my impression at the stadium, other than Mohamed Sanu really contributed to our victory. I didn't realize that he dropped the perfect pass over the middle long before Jimmy Wilson clocked him. That was an extremely fortunate play.

Sanu dropped the vital 2nd down pass in overtime, which would have put Cincinnati well within field goal range, and he also decided to run out of bounds after catching a pass for a first down with 1:48 remaining in regulation. That might have seemed like a smart move at the time but consider how it would have altered the game if he had decided to challenge Reshad Jones and stay in bounds for a few extras yards. Now Philbin is stuck. He knows the Bengals are in field goal range. He's desperate to retain time for Tannehill and the offense. I suspect Philbin would have called a time out right there, instead of waiting until after the next play. That would have left us with only two remaining, and Cincinnati at 1st and 10. Very likely we start the final drive with zero time outs instead of one, and that one time out was huge.

McKinnie wore down as the game progressed. That was another thing I noticed on tape. Sensible.

I remembered incorrectly that it was the 2nd down play on Cincinnati's final possession that looked so dangerous at the game. It was actually the first down play. Green and Gresham were cruising wide open. Then on the final play Reshad Jones and Chris Clemons are arguing back and forth. Jones seems to wave him off and insist on freelancing. Grimes starts to blitz from the edge, which looks like the planned scheme, but once Jones takes off nearby into the backfield, Grimes realizes he better cover Jones' responsibility. Grimes slips while changing course and the receiver is wide open over the middle, waving for the ball which would have produced an easy first down, and then some.

I don't think Jones had any idea what he was supposed to be doing on that play and just decided **** it, I'm blitzing.

What team doesn't have "major questions?"

There are no teams out there that have no issues. People overreact too much

That was the most preposterous combination of drivel I have ever read

Ok, now admit it, you didn't even watch the game last night. That was Philbin's best coaching job since he's been here. With all the controversy he kept the team together and they played for him until the end. Cased closed. I really wonder about some of you

If that was his Philbin's best coaching job, we're in trouble. I honestly get the feeling that he doesn't adjust anything at half time. That is a major problem for us, and it's and where Belichick has found his success.

And they aren't going anywhere with Tannehill

Troll alert.

Of course WV thumbs up this post. Guy was gushing over Tannehill the first few games and now is making up lame nicknames and pass aggressive posts about the guy. Wv is the embodiment of a kneejerk fan.

What this thread is about is spinning into what people really want to happen. This is based on a snapshot in time. You are looking at this draft class without considering that they believe in saving these guys for later and learn as much as they can until guys get hurt.

As long as we have Patterson/Grimes/Carroll/Wilson all guys with experience is there really a need to play them now? Madison and Surtain were not good until year 3.

These coaches have a philosophy about the rookies. It is not a bad one since we have depth at many spots. Jordon does have a shoulder issue because I noticed when he went to block a flat pass he reacted to his should afterwards. There is alot we dont know so the opinion on this is an overreaction and piling on.

The only problem this team had was not finishing games and mostly because offense was in shotgun. That has been our problem. Not using TE's and using basic spread with 5 OL every time is a recipe for disaster.

And Ireland has nothing to do with this other than it has been reported that coaches have a diff opinion than Ireland on playing certain players, probly rookies refering to.

But we are 4-4 now after going through one of the toughest schedules in the league. Most people had us around this record anyways, so you cant say that we are playing below avg. based on expectation.

Everyone basically said the second half of the season was going to be easier so why are things different now? I would suggest waiting til the season is over or near over otherwise its just an overreaction in a snapshot in time. If you consider what is happening with other teams and injuries and such, you should reconsider.

Can anyone imagine if we had Keller? We lost alot there. That is not Jeff Irelands or the coaches fault. Its just football and how you deal with the loss. My only problem is Sherman running a shotgun offense way too much. He seemed to move away from that. We shall see.

You mean the defense that couldn't get off the field in the second half?

I remember thinking to myself directly after the Grimes pick-6 is that the defense is going to be worn down and especially Grimes who needed oxygen after and did not play the next two plays. He was covering their best WR. Atuitui came in because they were worried about being gassed as they should have.

The refs kept giving them calls in their favor which is what the biased refs do when we are winning in the second half. They dont like it. Not good for football when playoff teams or superbowl champs are losing to us in second half.

We overcame it because the offense was able to put up those 3 points and that vaunted Cincy defense was not as good as advertised IMO. yeah they had injuries, every teams does.
