I asked a question about the vertical nature of his offense. I was "Chris from Saint Petersburg" btw.
I said that if you look at the percentages, passes thrown over 20 yards, passes thrown under 10 yards, the Dolphins had one of the top most vertical offenses in the NFL last year.
This year if you look at those percentages we're one of the LEAST vertical teams in the NFL.
I asked if they as coaches had anticipated that dramatic of a change, planned for it, etc. I asked if they have target distributions in their passing trees for that kind of thing.
His answer was highly interesting, as opposed to the kind of "blah" answers you usually get out of him.
After saying that he agrees with me 100% about everything I said, he basically admitted that no they did not plan for this change and that they have been unable to successfully stretch the field.
He said that when Daunte got in they tried it, but then Daunte kept getting sacked. So then Joey got in there and they concentrated on all quick passes.
He said the upshot is that the offense has gotten better because of avoiding the negative situations.
But that they really want to begin challenging the ball downfield some more and get back to where we were last year in terms of vertical offense.
And then he complimented me a few times on the great observation and question
Oh yeah and then someone sent a BOMB in the form of a cute little kid that said that Joey Harrington is his favorite player and if he keeps doing well why would you bench him in favor of Culpepper...something to that effect. Saban immediately was like "Who told you to ask that question?" And then after answering it he was like "See that kid can work for the Post when he grows up".
