I get that a players situation greatly affects his development, but you are just taking it way to far. You really think just switching draft spots between Smith and Rodgers would cause an almost identical swap in career trajectory? Your logic says that the players talent and ability are irrelevant and that environment is the only thing determining success.

Using that same logic, if we drafted Ryan first he would have been in the same ****ty situation that Henne has been in, and thus, would have had the same amount of success thusfar.

You are simultaneously arguing that QB success is determined by the help they have around them, while also saying we should have drafted Ryan at at #1 when we had a team that would provide no help.

That's why I made the comment to begin with... so the Aaron Rodgers jock-sniffers could hear their own logic as to why Miami shouldn't have drafted Matt Ryan, or try to make the argument that Matt Ryan would be somewhere selling shoes right now instead of playing quarterback in the NFL if it weren't for Tony Gonzalez and Michael Turner.

It's not a coincidence that you're the only one that touched that one?




The answer to all this is simple... Miami has to draft the best left tackle in the draft if they want to get this turned around. It's Matt Kalil or Miami will be stuck in another rut of medicrity for a decade.

Taking a shot on Andrew Luck or Matt Barkley is entirely too risky. They might bust.

We were all told that Chad Henne could not improve..That after 2 years, he was as good as he was gonna get..

Miami and its fan just didnt wanna wait for him to get better..I'll admit after the 3rd game this year I gave up hope on him getting better.

It's not like people had a choice. What competition was there?

Matt Ryan is, and always was, an average qb. Just because he's got a fancy nickname and through a TD with his first pass in the NFL does not make him great. He's more of a myth now than a real player, his reputation outways his ability. He's on a loaded team and to be honest he's holding them back. We've made so many mistakes as an organization, but jake long isn't one of them, what do you think the eagles would give for a jake long in their line up? A change of approach is needed but we can now legitamately spend the next 5 years drafting skill position players due to the depth we've accured recently on the lines, starting with andrew luck. I'm excited for the future, the only way is up and it might be a quicker rise than some of you realise.

I'd like to find out....


Their 1st round pick and DeSean Jackson would have Jake Long's beat up, Hall of Fame a** on a plane to Philly if it was up to me..

I'll get a left tackle good enough to win with.

However, I do feel some are missing the point

This is all about philosophy. The Fins philosophy has to use all assets to build up the lines, and worry about the playmakers at another time. The main issue is the philiospohy, and a related issue is they have sucked at building the lines even using all of the assets, but thats more talent evaluation than anything else.

The last couple of years we have been content with Marshall as our only offensive weapon. We have a system shi** wr next to him with absolutely zero talent. We have no capable te. We have Reggie Bush starting at rb.

BUT, we have a strong d line with depth-saving grace. We are working hard to get a strong oline. Guess what, with those, we still would not win. We are missing all of the most important pieces, and are not really even trying to acquire them with this 1980's philosophy we have going. There is a reason Parcells has failed at his last couple destinations. We need a forward thinking gm who understands that the playmakers are the core of your team in today's NFL, while the lines/front 7 could be replaced. Our team has had it completely backwards.

I'm not saying that wouldn't be a good idea, but we've got to stop viewing our good players as sellable assets. Say we did get luck next year, how great would it be to slot him in behind the best LT in the game with a great No.1 reciever and a great slot guy. Drop in a franchise QB and I think our offence would be damn threatning.

I have a big disagreement with #1 (Drafting Jake Long over Matt Ryan). Has Matt Ryan won a Superbowl? Would Ryan have been any better here in Miami???....think about the weapons Ryan has with the Falcons: Gonzalez, White, Harry Douglas, Julio Jones, Michael Turner, compared to Miami which has an overrated Brandon Marshall at WR, and not much of a running game or anything else.

I think the main reason Miami has had problems is they have never brought in an heir-replacement to Marino who really was an upper echelon college QB. They also never brought in any free agent QB's who were all that great. When you never draft a QB in the first round you can't expect much (Not that all great QB's are first round picks, but it helps). Not having a franchise QB has probably been the main reason guys like JJ, Wannstadt, Saban, Cam Cameron have not lasted long as head coach.

Its not like Randy Mueller and Saban didnt try that..

Just cause you draft them does not mean your going to be successful....

It would not be the first time the Eagles traded a 1st rounder for a tackle.

Brandon Marshall is our best player. He caught like 11-12 passes a game in Denver with a great QB in Cutler (Yes, great. See lasts night) He's only caught over 10 passes like 5-6 times here.

Just to help you with the stats a bit
Marshall has played in 61 games with Cutler and has 327 receptions
or 5.3 receptions average per game
NOT the 11 or 12 per game you think

He averages 6 receptions a game here in Miami which
is better than when he played with "the great Cutler"

As for Marshall has only caught 5-6 "10 catch games here


He has 4... 10 catch games in 18 games here in Miami
versus 7... 10 catch games in 61 games with Denver

Which shows he has a 10 catch game every 4.5 games here in Miami
while in Denver he had a 10 catch game every 8.7 games almost double
Again playing with the great Cutler his numbers were worse

The numbers say he's having much better average
so far here in Miami for 10 catch games

Matt Ryan would have failed in Miami. There's really no debate. We all know it, and if we drafted him we would still be a losing team this season.

Even on a team that has better players in just about every position, he's still not playing well. Matt Ryan just doesnt elevate his team.

That being said, we still should not have ingnored the QB position like we did.
