It's probably a bad plan, if T-Dumb has anything to do with it.
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/fl-sp-hyde-dolphins-gase-20180405-story.htmlOK, I’m not going to lie. The Dolphins’ offseason has me stumped. People keep asking: What’s the new plan? And is it a smart plan? A dumb plan? Are they following their plan?
Is it, as Harvard Business School might phrase it, a sustainable business model to bring this franchise out of the wilderness?
Do they even have a business model?
Short answer: Yes. They have a business model. As I see it, they’re unloading top talent due to high price tags, signing 30-something players and defensive ends and sacrificing talent for character to improve the locker room.
But shouldn’t the idea be to chase talent and character? And improve the team on the field? They keep talking about an improved culture, which is all well and good except for one nagging question.
Who set that previously failed culture?
Who, for instance, hired a cocaine-sniffing, video-making, Vegas-escort-calling offensive coordinator?
Who signed a 30-something linebacker in Lawrence Timmons who not only went AWOL but wasn’t as good as scouted, and an old tight end in Julius Thomas who replaced old tight end Jordan Cameron?
Who signed an overweight linebacker in Rey Maualuga, known for partying, who took weeks to get in playing shape — and then was arrested for partying?
That previous culture was set by the same brain trust of VP Mike Tannenbaum, coach Adam Gase and general manager Chris Grier, who are setting the new culture. This is Plan No. 3 in Year No. 3 for them, too.
