It's Only Happened ONCE!
You could say it’s Ryan Tannehill, because the quarterback position means that much. And you could say Ndamukong Suh, considering he takes a double-team every play.
But considering his variety of assignments and ability to make impactful plays it’s pretty clear Reshad Jones ranks with them as the most-difficult-to-replace Dolphin.
And now they might have to do just that.
Jones was diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff, as the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first reported. The question now is if that’s the end of his season, as it appears.
How do the Dolphins replace him?
They can’t.
Michael Thomas would start at safety, but the role he’d play would be different. Jones was, at times, the clean-up hitter in he secondary. He was, at times, a fourth linebacker. He blitzed. He moved around. He covered for other teammates’ deficiencies. He was the Dolphins defender the opposing quarterback had to find.
Buffalo comes Sunday and Jones’ absence would be telling. The run? Buffalo leads the league with a 5.6-yard average per rush attempt (Tennessee is second at 4.9 yards). The pass? Tyrod Taylor has 28 touchdowns against eight interceptions since the start of last season.
