Hyde: Steve Ross needs to get more involved

The last thing I want is for Ross to be MORE involved. That clueless man bungles everything he touches. He needs a czar type to handle this stuff for him

exactly...look at Jerry Jones

I would say there is a very very small percentage of NFL team owners that have ever played the game or even slightly understand it from a coaching point of view.

Link: NFL team owners

Just to be clear - I didn't mean that they had to have played or understand the game from a coaching standpoint. So no idea how you got that from my post.

get more involved:

step 1: sell the team

step 2: get totally un-involved

It's a very interesting observation. I've said it before, absentee ownership in the NFL doesn't work - to further compound the problem, our owner doesn't know the game - 'from what I can tell'.

From what I know about Mr. Ross - he doesn't have much, if any, history of being involved in this sport. So... is it a hobby, or is it a profit/revenue stream?

The simple fact that there's only 2 options in my question - and the hobby point is relation to the next point - the fact that I don't believe there's a third and most important option of all... is it his passion??? - to me at least - dictates that it is ultimately a profit/revenue source.

Some may add that it's a publicity ploy, but he doesn't appear to have the ego that other Real Estate moguls that have attempted to enter the Football arena, a la Donald Trump - so what is it... again... for me it's profit/revenue driven.

As a result of this and his mindblowingly stupid set up of everyone reporting in to him - even though from my standpoint that he doesn't understand the game... is simply asking for continued trouble.

I hope it's not... the 30 years of my fanatically following this team steers me in the direction of hope - but I fear it won't if things continue as they are.

Perhaps Mr. Hickey is the saviour in as far as bringing stability and credibility to this once proud organisation.... I for one hope it's someone, and soon!

Dude, at least educate yourself a LITTLE before posting. Mr. Ross is a Dolphin fan with a TON of money who wants nothing more than the Dolphins to win another Super Bowl. His "stupid setup" is not the only one of its sort. Many teams employ this and it's the proper way to manage a business, even football ;-). Have faith my fellow Phins fan! :-)

Hyde remains as clueless as ever. The Martin Fiasco once the details are really examined is not about dysfunction.

It is about a problem player.

The title of the article says it all, even if the article has absolutely nothing to do with that title...:rolleyes2:

Ross needs to be...

MUCH LESS involved not more...

The trainer was fired because of Ross' involvement not because of his lack of involvement.

Ross is like a sprinter, his goal is always how fast can I cave to pressure & abandon the people I pay to run MY team.
So tcdrover - You say that the Martin fiasco is not about dysfunction, just about a problem player.
Hmmm... Do you see that problem player being Martin or Incognito? Did you honestly read the full 144 pages in the Wells Report?

If Ross were such a big Dolphin fan why did he try yo buy the Jets first? Ross is a New Yorker through and through. He only spent time down here in South Florida before the Dolphins even existed. He was in Michigan when the Dolphins were formed, and then he spent the several next decades in NY. I bet if you would have asked him 10 years ago what his favorite NFL team is he would say the Jets. He still has an unusual affection for former Jets. Why the help else would Curtis Martin be on a DOLPHINS leadership committee?

From what I know about Mr. Ross...

Most would describe 2014 Super Bowl winning owner, Paul Allen of the Seattle Seahawks as an extremely "hands off" owner. He consciously tries to not get in the way of his Coach and GM, he just let's them do their jobs. How is Stephen Ross different, apart from the fact he lives in Manhatten? Unless you want a Jerry Jones type of owner who wants to get involved in every single player decision as also the GM? Or maybe a Jimmy Haslem type of owner who has owned the Browns team about 3 years and has fired 2 Football Czars, 3GMs and 3 Head Coaches, so far? Or maybe a Daniel Snyder type of owner, who asks his diva QB, RG3 who he wants to coach the team?

By all means attack the post in an educated manner, but not the poster.

Re Paul Allen - very true - but there's a difference between 'absentee' and 'hands off'. At least Allen resides in the same state :)

I actually see Ross getting in the way, largely because he doesn't know how to run a football team - now.. I'll give him this - it could be like Haslem, who at least came out to say that there's no rule book in how to run an NFL team - but the actions that Haslam has shown as been one of - I'm the boss, and I'm making decisions - and it's with authority.

Ross on the other hand, has not instilled in me, much confidence - yet. I just don't see him as a football guy. Maybe I'm a little old school, but I like football people around a football team - not hangers on or those looking for the limelight and headlines. I really do hope I'm wrong.

Normally I don't get into the emotive side of posting but rather the factual and technical side of the game, so I'll leave it at that.

Gotcha. But we can fairly assume that Ross is just as knowledgeable of the game as 90% of any of the other NFL owners. Their say is in the business aspect, so I'm not to sure why the dig on his FBI.
