The lost Dolphin stood on the farthest island of the farthest state and said he isn't lost at all. He's happy. He's content. He's home here, too.

"I live the simplest life you can imagine -- wake up every day and decide whether to golf, fish or have a drink," Jake Scott, 61, said while standing on the front porch of his home on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.

Scott, a star of the Dolphins' Super Bowl runs in the early 1970s, doesn't return for the perfect season reunions, didn't attend a gathering of Super Bowl Most Valuable Players last winter in Detroit, rarely surfaces in public and hadn't talked to the media since he retired from football in 1979.

But in a wide-ranging interview over two days, Scott said he hasn't worked a day in his post-football life, spends half his time in Hawaii and the other half either in his native Georgia or traveling the world. He also gave his take on several Dolphins stories.

"I'm living a great life,'' he says. "I do whatever I want."
Hyde did a wonderful interview 5 time Pro Bowler, Jake Scott. This is the only interview that Jake has given since leaving the Dolphins.

For those of you who were not Miami 'aware' when Jake Scott played defensive back in the 70's this may not mean as much as to those of us who watched Jake play and be named the Superbowl MVP of the '72 team and those of us who were shocked by this man who had the guts to yell at Shula, but I hope you will enjoy it as well.

This is a great read, thanks for posting it.

p.s. That story about Scott and Shula in the elevator was intriguing- I have a hard time
believing that Shula wouldn't remember saying what he did.

Thanks Mal...I posted a comment to Dave thanking him... hellofa typo in there... 480 FEET of rain annually...hahahahaha

Remarkable interview. Glad to see that he is doing well, but I wish both sides could set aside their pride and figure out a way to bring this guy back into the family.

I loved to watch Jake and Dick play. They could dominate games.

There seem to be a misunderstanding between Shula and Jake rather than deepseated bitterness.I feel confident they will work this out eventually and we will see him at Dolphin functions in the future.....no tie of course.

Jake Belongs in the Hall of Fame....

Jake Scott was real #13 before that other guy...he belongs in the Ring of Honor with Dick Anderson and IN the NFL Hall of Fame before he passes away and then they elect him in....
I hope Jake and Don Shula can end thier feud before it is to late...
My .02 cents....

Great read, thanks for posting Celtkin.

Jake was my favorite player in the 70's. He was hard hitting and tough.

Maybe Don should make a trip to Jake's place. Let him know your coming Don.

I really enjoyed reading that. Thanks. I gotta say though I'm having difficulty believing that Shula said 'f-u' to him in that elevator but I also can't believe he'd make that up!

A lot of those guys...Zonk, Scott, Shula and others were real hot heads but aside from Scott and Zonk, I don't know if any players who publically stood up to Shula.
