1. LG Jesse Davis. He’s this week’s answer at the position that was Ted Larsen’s until a biceps injury put him out until November at the earliest. You’d think Kraig Urbik will have a say on what goes on here, if he’s healthy — and if Urbik doesn’t have to play center at some point for Mike Pouncey (who will play Thursday). Davis has been getting good reviews, though he had a mixed tape in the opening series against Baltimore last week. You see what they like in him — he has good power and is mobile. That’s what this offense wants. He also was beaten some by fifth-year defensive tackle Brandon William (as the video shows). We’ll see where this goes, and tonight can be telling. Starting for Philadelphia opposite Davis should be former Baltimore veteran Timmy Jernigan.

if I remember, isn't Brandon Williams one of the best DT's in the league? I wouldn't worry then if Davis got beat by him then.

Well those 5 are certainly worth watching. This is Hyde at his best, reporting and summing, but not trying to do much heavy lifting with analysis. Good article.

I'm sure everyone else will also be focusing more than just those five guys. Additional guys I'll watch for are:

1. Cutler
Because... Well... of course.

2. Parker
Is the breakthrough real? (I think it is)

3. Harris
Let's see how his pass rush fares and whether he has run defending chops.

4. MLB
Will Rey M. play? Can Hull stack and shed? Is that rookie Chase Allen worth developing? Are we going to see Timmons shift? Are we going to suck against the run yet again without McMillan? Can any of these guys cover?

5. Asiata
Give him a shot! How much time, if any, will Isaac Asiata get with the first team OL? With Cutler going a long while, they may want to keep the best pass protectors in most of the time. How will Asiata do? These are important questions because even if he doesn't win the starting spot, we know our tendency to get injured along the OL, so Asiata will play this year. No I juries tonight is actually our main goal.

5.5. Brendel
Hey, sue me, I wanted to see more than 5. Let's be honest, how confident are we that Pouncey can go the full game, much less the full season? So Brendel, whatcha got?

I really want to see where Thomas' heart is. If his heart is in it them we should reap some benefits.

Please let us see something from Asiata....PLEASE!

I'm ready to see grant finally show himself to be a legit weapon.

Jay Cutler please just be solid.... thats all i ask

Nobody get hurt

No injuries. These games are for the bottom of the roster guys to earn a spot on the team.

I totally agree. Pouncey is the ticking time bomb that can implode this offense.

Very little bottom roster players tonight hopefully. I would expect at least 3 quarters from the starters and a second string and very little from Fales, Doughty and company.

Don't get your hopes up. We probably won't see the starters more than a quarter tonight. With some exceptions maybe, like Godchaux or Allen.

Starters are supposed to play the entire first half. They are still deciding if they will come out for a drive in the 3rd. Gase will play it by ear but if the line is not playing well, he will pull Cutler. Pouncey is going to play and he usually pulls those guys together.

Anyone heard if JaWuan James is playing?

I wanna see Harris and Cutler for the most part...also keep an eye on how our LB core holds up.

'

On the other hand, if by some miracle, Williams is not as effective as he should be, that could speak well of Davis.

IMO Jesse Davis and RT Eric Smith have already earned a roster spot

I'd be perfectly happy seeing NO ONE who's not slated to be a 2nd stringer or scrub.

We seem to have this dark cloud hanging over the team when it comes to pre-season injuries. I'd rather our starters prove themselves to Gase in TC and forego a period or less of real play experience for a guaranteed start of season state of health.
