4. You can’t throw talent overboard. Did you see how Vontae Davis played Sunday? He had five passes defensed. That’s why he’s going to the Pro Bowl. At 26, he’s the type of cornerback you can count on to play at that level in an impact position for the next four years. Davis took a while to grow up and Joe Philbin, in his first months, decided he wasn’t going to help him develop into the player he has in Indianapolis. The Dolphins got a second- round draft pick that became cornerback Jamar Taylor, who has played decently but also has been injured much of his two years. That’s not an even trade. It wasn’t at the time. And what’s a prime area of need for the Dolphins this off-season? Cornerbacks.

I absolutely agree that cb is our first concern and we better start stocking up.

Our safety's are not frightening either.

Into days NFL, you can not have enough quality db's.

IN DEFENSE of philbin......., vontae didn't play like that here. Even the homers were bashing vontae. And rightfully so!! And let's not forget Shawn Smith!! Was there anyone who thought he wasn't a complete bust?

None of these two were chosen by philbin. They all played and failed here under previous staffs and "coached" by the immortal Todd Bowles. But, both those guys left the toddfins and looked completely different!

You can only judge by what a player does for YOUR team, not for some unforseen situation.

But, i do want Todd Bowles for the jets h/c job!!!

Hey Hyde, is Tom Gamble and Jim Harbaugh coming to Miami next year? Oh sorry…

The most important lesson is that you need to score 3 TD's to have a good chance to win at this level. 7 of the 8 playoff games the winner has scored 3 or more TD's.

Hyde IS right though, we should be talking about acquiring talent not canning it….(i.e. Mike Wallace).

I'm all for keeping Wallace if he sees what he is doing wrong and wants to be a team player, otherwise adios amigo. Some of you can't see the problem he can be if he doesn't get along with QB and quits on a whim. Imo it's up to him, keep him if he sees the light or trade, cut, if not. ..pretty simple. You can't keep stars if they are miserable simple as that.

We should have Davis and Smith , still could of signed Grimes and never of signed Wheeler and Ellerbe terrible mistake .. Vernon did same thing first couple years a bit Inmature then it clicks and u get a real good player, it's mind numbing

Vontae is yet another player that Philbin couldn't reach. He coaches in the NFL but wants to be dealing with an entire roster of Rhodes Scholars; there's a disconnect there. Instead of exhibiting leadership, he loves to ship out players. Time and again, Philbin can't handle certain players.

I don't have a problem getting rid of Davis or Marshall, it's the (lack of) replacements that hurt this team

When I look at players who once played here who excel on other teams (Davis, Smith) the first thing that comes to mind is coaching.

Philbin's strength is supposed to be coaching up players.

Didn't see how coaching was an asset with the playoffs/season was on the line the past two seasons.

The point was not getting rid of talent, not corner back. Davis was not bad here actually. Neither was Bush. Next case in point is Wallace.

Then you are saying the same thing. Getting rid of someone with a replacement in line is different.

We replaced Vontae Davis with a draft pick. The lesson to be learned (even more so with Philbin) is that we can't assume a draft pick can replace talent. Especially with Philbin who doesn't always play rookies. The way I would approach our offseason with Philbin at the helm is obtain immediate plug in starters in our key places, such as Offensive tackle, Defensive Tackle and cornerback. Our draft should be to replace Wallace next year with a tall fast receiver, middle linebacker to groom, and much needed depth that will have a year to learn the game. We can't get rid of Wallace hoping our first round draft pick comes in learns the system in his first year, and has Philbin's confidence.

"The regular season matters"......No **** bro.

The talent section is right on the money however, I agreed that Davis wasn't performing to expectations in Miami but cutting him was a little premature. Now you have Davis and Smith balling and Fireland looking as inept as any Dolphins GM ever. Jeff will go down as one of if not the worst GM in Miami History.
