OK since there has been a barrage of articles/comments about the loyalty of the Miami fan base it lead me to think about this question:

Ross packs up the team and heads out of Miami to L.A. but as in the case of Cleveland the records/name etc...stayed with the city of Miami, just like in the case of Cleveland/Baltimore.

Would you root for the team where it moved (say the team becomes the Los Angeles Condors for arguments sake) or would you continue to root for Miami as an expansion team like in the case of Cleveland?

I would have to answer this question with root for Miami, my loyalty would stay with the team history and all the past moments that defined the Dolphins over my 30 years of being a fan. Obviously this would be a total pain in the *** if it occurred but this would present a huge problem philosophically, root for the entire team of players who defined the Dolphins one season and are now a completely new team the next season or root for the past that defines the Miami franchise as the Dolphins we loved for years.

IDK - but let's hope hypothetical is the way this debate stays forever.

Nope.

I'm a Dolphins fan because they're IN Miami. Period.

Dolphins can move to Los Angeles or Billings, Montana if they want, but JCane's heart isn't moving.

Rooting for a new hometown team ain`t so hard, especially if the old owner was a big ol douchecanoe that just up and left with his team.

i would still be a dolphin fan but would be quite tempted to put a bullet right between ross's eyes

The more Ive thought about this the less I would mind it. In fact, it could have advantages for me. Our home games would all be at 415 unless its a night game. Thats fine with me. I like that better. If I go to a game in Miami, it requires a flight anyway, so nothing wrong with flying to LA.

The only negatives would be that traveling from West to East and playing at 1pm has been shown to be a disadvantage for those teams. Also, what about the rivalries? Could they really keep the phins in the AFC East division if they moved to LA? I doubt it. Realignment would be necessary. We would miss out on beating the Jests and the Bills twice a year. Also someone would have to move out of the west. KC would be likely. That kills some big rivalries they have. They would likely go into the north or south division and push one of those teams into the east to fill our spot. If they kept us in the East, that would be 3 road games where we would be at a big disadvantage, especially if they were 1pm games.

I'm sticking with the Miami (expansion team) Dolphins. I'm a fan of the team first. Owners, coaches and players come and go all the time.

Honestly, the current Dolphins have no connection to the 70's-80's Dolphins legacy and history aside from the name and uniform. The Dolphins have rebooted 5 times since Shula was here.

A new expansion team Dolphins wouldn't be much different from getting a new owner and coach. The current team moving to LA with a new name, sure, I might root for them but it's just Sparano and Co. getting a new gig in a new city.

Now, if this were 1985 and it were Shula and Marino moving to LA. I'd sell-out and roll with those guys.

Of course, they'd do the move and suddenly pull a Browns to Ravens and go to the Superbowl after years of sucking.

I wouldn't mind it!!! :D

But I seriously doubt the Miami Dolphins move any time soon!

Billings, MT is one of the few towns in the United States that makes Miami sports fans look loyal.

How many Cleveland fans became Ravens fans again ?

They hated Art Modell for moving the team to Baltimore and they hated the Ravens even more.. til this day.

they're in the same division to boot ~ just imagine the Dolphins moving and becoming another AFC East club that you'll have to face twice a year, talk about a double-whammy and a double slap in the face.

Not only that, but initially you saw the team win a super bowl soon after going to Baltimore, while your Browns franchise was sorry and putrid for many years (decades).. a triple slap in the face

And if the Dolphins left Miami, I couldn't see myself rooting for a new team in LA or wherever. I could see if it were being a Raiders fan and having the team move from Oakland to LA and back to Oakland again, and staying a Raiders fan, or staying a Chargers fan if the San Diego Chargers became the LA Chargers.

But if Miami moved to LA? No ****ing way.

no chance it happens i don't even know why ask this.... san diego or oakland would move hell even other teams will move before us.

miami will get a new roof or a stadium i can almost seeing it coming soon enough.

On a sidenote: getting into the AFC or NFC west wouldn't be a bad deal. Facing Seattle and San Fran twice a year is a hell of a lot easier than facing NE and the Jets.

There is no way Miami will get a brand new stadium.

I live in LA so I would def be a fan and most likely buy season tickets, but I would be a dolphins fan first and foremost.
