Okay, so this list is really a product of my watching far too much college football this season. I’ve become hooked, moreso than ever before, and subsequently, I have decided to rank the top 40 juniors and seniors available for the 2007 draft. The list is extremely subjective, and based on my own opinions and analysis – some of these guys I have had only a little opportunity to evaluate, so I’ve had to work off last seasons tapes and some highlight films, but I think I have a pretty good grasp of these 40.

1. Calvin Johnson – WR Georgia Tech
2. Joe Thomas – OT Wisconsin
3. Gaines Adams – DE Clemson
4. Adrian Peterson – TB Oklahoma
5. Brady Quinn – QB Notre Dame
6. Sam Baker – OT USC

7. LaRon Landry – DB LSU
8. Marshawn Lynch – RB California
9. Leon Hall – DB Michigan
10. Lamarr Woodley – DE Michigan
11. Frank Okam – DT Texas
12. Michael Bush – TB Louisville
13. Patrick Willis – LB Ole Miss
14. Troy Smith – QB Ohio State
15. Quentin Moses – DE Georgia
16. Michael Griffin – DB Texas
17. Dwayne Jarrett – WR USC
18. Jeff Samardzija – WR Notre Dame
19. Levi Brown – OT Penn State
20. Ted Ginn Jr. – WR Ohio State
21. Justin Blalock – OT Texas
22. Paul Posluszny – LB Penn State
23. Brian Brohm – QB Louisville
24. Alan Branch – DT Michigan
25. Aaron Ross – DB Texas
26. Amobi Okoye – DT Louisville
27. Brandon Meriweather – DB Miami
28. Quinn Pit**** – DT Ohio State
29. Buster Davis – LB Florida St.
30. Daymeion Hughes – DB California
31. Ryan Kalil – C USC
32. Victor Abiamiri – DE Notre Dame
33. Tim Crowder – DE Texas
34. Antonie Cason – DB Arizona
35. Rufus Alexander – OLB Oklahoma
36. Marcus McCauley – DB Fresno St.
37. Kenny Irons – RB Auburn
38. Kevin Kolb – QB Houston
39. Sydney Rice – WR S. Carolina
40. Brian Leonard – FB Rutgers

that would be a heck of a trade-up. The Pats are going to the playoffs this year, while Calvin Johnson is a top 3 pick, and Ginn Jr. is likely a top 15. It would cost the Patriots way too much

Don't forget the Patriots have 2 1st rounders this year now.

As for the power rankings, I do agree that Brohm should be higher.

Most of you guys know I have a severe man crush on Brian Brohm, but his season hasn't been as great as I thought it would be...it's been good, but I don't think it justified him being any higher. In the NFL, I would draft him over Troy Smith who I had ranked higher, and I wouldn't think a top 10 pick would be too high on him, but for the purpose of overall season rankings, I couldn't move him higher than 23.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I've been watching for more than stats. The way he's been playing lately, even with the thumb injured, has been pretty good. He puts a nice touch on the ball and has a good arm.

Troy Smith is also good in my opinion, but I would rather have Brohm :). Either, however, would be really good to pick.

I don't think it really matters. I don't think Brohm will be coming out this year. Especially after the loss to Rutgers. Louisville has the majority of their starters coming back next year. They'll be even better next year than they are this year. He's a leading Heisman canidate next year.

I hope he comes back. He'll be great and Louisville will be a Nat'l championship contender. Also, I don't think he needs to be a big name, big paycheck player to be content, so he will prefer to come back to try and win one.

You made an egregious error in leaving Marcus Thomas (UF) off of your list. In my opinion he is (was) the best DT in college football and Kiper had him in his top 10 seniors as recently as a week ago.

He has since been kicked off the team for failing to attend drug education classes (punishment for failing a drug test) and that will no doubt hurt his stock, but I imagine that when scouts see him on film his talent will be too great to ignore. He will also be a freak at the combine, as he is incredibly athletic for his size.

note: I am incredibly biased (but I have at least seen indications that he is highly regarded amongst scouts)

I totally hear you man. I had Thomas ranked as the 2nd DT on my board (behind Okam, ahead of Pit****) coming into the season, but there are a lot of concerns about that guy that couldn't justify me putting him ahead of anyone in my 40. I think he needs to prove his character and a team could take a big risk on him. For his sake, I hope he can sort his **** out, and his stock falling will really be his punishment.

Kolb (prenounced Cobb) is gonna be one hell of an NFL QB. There is nothing that guy cant do. I am a UCF fan and have watched him play in our conference a few times. He will be good.

I dont want to spend a high pick on him though. I am just saying he will be good.

I do want Mike Walker (WR) from UCF late in the draft, he is fast and catches everything.

Gotcha. Just curious, is this a mock-draft type list or just your personal ratings of the players? Meaning, is it where you think they will go or should go?

You never know, Bush may come back as well. He has until January to decide on his medical redshirt.
