Our O as a whole should have been more dominant..I'm please they moved up this year in just about every category...but check this out.

Person, draft position, as in round.

Long (1) Smiley (2) Stalete (2) Thomas (6) Carey (1) Fasano (2)

Those are some pretty high draft choices, our running game should have been top 5.

Our skilled positions.

Brown (1) Williams (1) Pennington (1) Ginn (1) Camarillo (U) Bess (U)
Martin (6)

That's a lot of round 1 and 2 picks on the O. With another year can they be dominant on the OL.. I was ready to upgrade center, RT and one of the guards.. but Thomas is strong.. Justin's problem is health. So now I'm think depth and give them another year together. We defintely need another top WR.. I would love penny's arm to be stronger..

Another thing I notice on O.. we have 6 starting draft picks by the phins on it. and 1 undrafted FA picked up by the phins first, so I kinda count bess as a part of the phin's drafting class. Defintely leads to the theory to draft well and grown your own talent.. But this group should get better with another year to grow together or do we still need to upgrade at C, guard, rt and WR?

Williams was a first round pick how many years ago? pennington was a 1st round pick how many shoulder surgeries ago? Ginn is only in his second year. Brown was 1 year removed from a torn ACL which, is known to be fully healed by the second year. Plus we didnt have Thomas for pretty much the whole year and Smiley went down so the whole interior o line had to be reshuffled.

I thought our pass protection was good but i was wondering why we couldnt pound the ball for over a 100 yards a game all the time. Mybe defenses dont respect our deep threat and thats causing some problems.

First round talent is first round reguardless of when, except when they're at the end of their careers..and non of these guys were.. I understand Ronnie's problem, but he played well even with the acl recovery, hell, the guy made the pro bowl.. but I'm mostly looking at the OL.. that's some pretty good draft picks on that line in terms of rounds picked.. now are they worth those rounds is a question that can be debated.. that could be the real issue here.

Yea but you also got to remember that alot of a o-lines success has to do with chemistry and being together so that you can work off each others strength. I really believe in that. Plus Long and Thomas were 2 rookies! And Williams is at the end of his career. Plus as the person before said, pennington cant really throw it deep and our WRS are not like a Fitzgerald or moss where they can stretch the field so it let alot of teams load up the box. I mean we passed alot sure, but the passes we threw were mainly 3-8 yards or so.

I thought that this team would have been better in the run game than in pass protection. I'm surprised that it was the other way around.

Williams has a lot of mileage left because of all the time he missed.. Ginn can stretch the field, but our QB can't throw it that far..Ginn got behind a lot of DB's this year and penny didn't let it fly.. so that's not an issue for me.. I actually think penny in that sense limits Ginn..but I like the fact that our WR's had to learn to run routes to get open and get separation.. for penny to get over 3600 yards means our receivers really got good at running short to medium routes... This was year one of this OL, if we get Carey back, next year should be an improvement, with Thomas a little behind after missing all but one game of his rookie year.. But are they the right guys? even if they top 2 round picks?

That's a pretty good line, but how do you feel about this one?

Long (Rookie LT), Alleman (Waivers), Satele (Injured Labrum), Ndwuke (Unwanted), Carey (Switched Positions), Fasano (Not a Blocking TE)

Throw in a dash of CompletelyNewSystem when switching from finesse blocking to power blocking, CompletelyNewCoachesAndTrainingMethods, QBWhoCan'tThrowLongSoDefensesPutEightMenInTheBox, and a pinch of NoLinemanPlayedWithAnyoneOnEitherSideOfHimLastYear just for chemistry. Now that's quite a recipe ... for disaster.

Honestly, I'm not all that surprised we were mediocre along the OL. It all looked so good on paper, but things aren't always so simple, heh.

Smiley is a good player but 2 years in a row now on IR.

Thomas is a wait and see. He's only played 1qrt. of football.Sure he looked good in preseason but you gotta remember in preseason most teams just run their vanilla base defense schemes. The big question for Thomas is how well will he do when teams actually game plan agaisnt the Dolphins offense in regular season games.

Now you know why Maser got fired, our Oline should have produced more and Sparano knows it.

Believe me, Ginn CAN stretch the field, he's faster than Fitzgerald, and one of the fastest in the NFL.

He broke his leg when someone fell on him. It's not like it makes him injury prone. Everyone would have broken his leg on that play.

He's a good player but what good is he being on Injured reserve? The guy is still going to get surgery again on the same shoulder that put him on ir 2 years ago.
