Parcells and Ireland have been around too long to just fire A DC willy Nilly and just hope a new coordinator would magically appear like lucky charms. I think we wont know until after the Super Bowl. At least I hope I'm right.

Why? What makes you think you know more about Bowles then them?

Promoting from within is great when your unit is doing excellent and someone stole your coach....but promoting when the staff sorta sucks on defense is just more of the same Defensive philosophy, and that's a BAD thing!

We need a whole new approach, and not stealing an underling from one of the more aggressive Defenses like the Steelers, Ravens or heaven help me for saying...the Jets...is just FOOLISH!

Ok I can respect that.

We don't know what Bowles defense philosophy would be though. It is also kinda hard to judge his work when he had 2 rookie starting CB'S and 2 SS'S.

I get what you are saying. I just think it's the same as assuming Butler would have brought a aggressive philosophy just because he coached for the Steelers

I'll bet letting our D-coach go has been in the works for a long time. They cut him loose now so he could find a job. (NFL etiquette)

I have a hunch they have someone lined up & are not just interviewing-around & "turning over rocks." Could be someone who is still coaching in the playoffs.

They can't officially tamper, but everyone does. They just chat with agents & head-hunters ... alot gets done with a wink & a nod. The interviews may just be smoke to cover the winks & nods. HOWEVER, it is possible they were left at the alter (danger of winks & nods) & must start anew.

From a D-candidate's perspective (IMO) ... Some may not have a good recipe to make chicken salad from chicken SHTuff (players) ... & don't want to damage their guru reputation. (IMO, i.e. That's why Saban ran ... now he's a big-bucks genius)

Can we still coach the Senior Bowl without a DC?
Senior Bowl, Jan 30.
Super Bowl Feb 7.

i'm pretty sure our FO has a good idea who their DC is going to be. everyone has annointed David Lee as next OC when Henning retires, but you can be sure there will be interviews as well.

We were almost top of the league in sacks. I'm not sure where everyone got the idea that we're some vanilla, rush three drop eight, bend but don't break defense. Frankly, I'm not convinced stealing an underling from a megatalented defense like the Jets, Ravens, or Steelers would really be that great. You have to wonder, is the defense great because of good coaching or is it great because the players are great? I'll tell you why our defense sucked this year: no talent. So all this pissing and moaning for some genius from Pittsburgh to come in and dump our vanilla old schemes really doesn't address the biggest problem on the team. You could put Buddy Ryan in charge of our defense and it'd still be mediocre at best. Our problem is with the Jimmies and Joes, not the Xs and Os.

Hope they have some plan, coaching changes going on all over the league.
And apparently we're competing with the Bears for a DC.

Gray is mulling the offer over and is expected to accept to accept the job. The Redskins could try to retain Gray before he decides on the Seahawks job.

the only coach that interests me there is Jerry Grey, but we're looking for a DC with a background working with LBs it looks like. Remember, Sparano said he wanted a DC by Sunday. As I mentioned in another thread, you need permission from teams to interview assistants unless their contracts are up. We can't interview assistants for any teams in the playoffs. Maybe there are candidates on some of the playoffs Sparano is interested in interviewing.

I hear what your saying, but a lot of moves being made and as I said , the Bears are looking for a DC too.

yes but the Bears are looking for people with a Tampa 2/Cover 2 background. I highly doubt they'd go after anybody we'd be interested in (mainly cause their best defenders would get killed in our system)

Big deal if Bowles is our next DC. What happens if he turns out to be a genius on D? Then you will all be praising the trifecta, but right now you know less about him as a DC than anyone else.

It's so stupid that everyone thinks that we absolutely MUST hire a well known DC. I mean how does anyone ever get to become a DC then if all everyone did was wait around for the next great DC to get fired.

This is like a fresh out of cllege graduate looking for a job but all the listings say 2 years exp required. HTF is anyone supposed to ever get discovered if they require experienced only candidates? Is there some sort of list that comes out every year that lets all NFL coaches know which future great DC were born?

This Todd Bowles situation is stupid, if he's our DC give him a chance he might be great.
