Well I did some research this early draft day morning. Couldn't sleep so I said "what the heck".. lol. And I saw a few people were upset that we gave up a 4th rounder for today's draft. So here-
Take a look at the players chosen (since 1995) with the pick we gave to Dallas for two young productive NFL players (and starters) in Fasano and Ayedole.
Players picked #1 in the 4th Round
2007- RB- Michael Bush (Raiders)- No carries, no yards. Literally nonexistent
2006- TE- Owen Daniels (Texans)- Decent year catching the ball. Horrible run blocker
2005- FS- Sean Considine ( Eagles) - played only 8 games last year. Not a good player
2004- LB- Reggie Torbor (Giants)- We just got him in free agency, lifetime backup
2003 - CB- Dennis Weathersby (Bengals)- Out of football
2002- RB- Jonathan Wells (Texans)- Out of football
2001- OT- Kenyatta Jones (Patriots)- Out of football
2000- CB- Lewis Sanders (Browns)- Career backup. Has never started more than 7 games in a season of his 8 NFL seasons. Has started more than 5 games only twice and he is entering his 9th season.
1999- CB- Paul Miranda (Colts)- Out of football
1998- C - Steve McKinney (Colts)- solid starter at Center his first 8 seasons. Has been a backup the last 2 seasons.
1997- G- Damon Denson (Patriots)- Only played 13 games in NFL career. Lasted 3 years in the league and hasn't played since 1999.
1996- OT- Jason Odom (Bucs)- Started at Tackle for 2 years before leaving football in 1999 at the age of 25.
1995- QB- Rob Johnson (Jaguars)- It's Rob Johnson, enough said.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No hall of famers there who were picked #1 in the 4th round. A couple serviceable players, but no player worth a ILB who got over 100 tackles in 6 of the last 7 years- and a Tight End who is an excellent blocker, with good hands, and plays smashmouth football who is very young with tons of upside just a week removed from 23 years of age-. And a tight end picked in the 2nd round himself just 2 years ago.
Owen Daniels did have a nice yr catching the ball last season as a 2nd year player, but he is a horrid run blocker and he is one dimensional. Plus he is more than a year older than Fasano and he didn't play behind an all-pro top 3 tight end in the league like Fasano had to do..
So you naysayers please stop your bitching and moaning over this trade yesterday giving up a 4th for two starters to our team. The dolphins did pretty well with this trade when considering precedences.
