I don't get it-Marshall gets 5 million a year to be a nickel back and...

Our defensive backfield needs to upgraded. So we upgraded it. You ppl need to settle down seriously! Complain, complain, complain.....I feel like I am at a knitting circle! I swear its like if a FA is not a big name or someone you want then they must suck. THis is not Madden, we can't sign the best player at every position.

Or you see it this way: If we sign Flynn (i'm pretty sure), we have with Richard Marshall and the re-signing of Paul Soliai, getting 3 of the 35 best FAs after the list PFT. What is not bad in a 32-team-league:

15. Dolphins defensive tackle
Paul Soliai
.
16. Packers quarterback
Matt Flynn
.
35. Cardinals cornerback
Richard Marshall
.

we traded a receiver that would rank prob 3rd on the free agent list at worst and got scraps so sorry if Im not enthused. Marshall solid signing overpaid in my opinion but my problem is we had bigger needs on oline, wr, qb pass rusher.

i wouldn't be surprised if sean smith is traded given this signing...that said if he is the nickle cb do you realize how much your 3rd corner is on the field in todays nfl??? a ton...many a team has gone to this spread you out and get your 3rd corner on the field offense and they try to exploit it...if he can lock it down its well worth it...at $5 mil per though i'm thinking he's being brought here for more than just the nickle job if that money # is right

Ben Grubbs didnt want to play here. He wanted to play for NO.

how can anyone say that a nickel corner is not a starter anymore? we played a 4-man front nickel package more than anything last year. most teams actually did. that's all assuming we're using Marshall as a nickel. he might end up being a starting FS as well. either way, he's going to play a lot

The same rationale was made when we drafted Jamar Fletcher. If he starts solid contract if he is a nickel we overpaid its that simple

There is a cap limit...let's sign every top free agent and look like philly or the skins..you don't build a championship in a year, but by drafting well and gettin valuable pieces.this is Irelands first real year to make moves.get off the man's nuts for a sec.these names aren't sexy, but they are versatile and provide depth.be patient although that is hard for us to do.

if you look before and after free agency we are a lesser team at this point. Huge down grade at wr, resigned Solai. improved secondary somewhat. Oline is still crap. Still no other pass rusher.

get over it. bipolars who get stabbed by their wives and then go back to them spells future trouble. especially when he hits another woman. regardless if he was defending her from a bottle. dude is nothing but trouble. Chicago will soon find out themselves. That guy is so damn narcissistic its not funny anymore.

that was 11 years ago. we had two stud CB's back then. we absolutely don't right now. and a 3rd CB isn't a luxury. it's a must. like it or not. would i have loved to fill that spot with a 350,000 $ rookie? sure.

besides, there isn't a substantial difference between starter and nickel CB. they're both going to be on the field a ton. you basically need three starting CBs in today's NFL.

I have getting over winning since Ireland and his clown crew got here. Ireland is the idiot that did all this research and made the trade , good thing he made that decision while passing on pant sagging Dez Bryant because that is much worse than hitting women

Thats why you draft well and get that guy in draft so you are not paying 5 mill for a nickelback which is definately not the growing rate. For all we know he may start and if he does then I can justify his salary. We have crap oline and we pay 5 mill for nickelback but invest a whole 2 million to sign some bum named Hicks

you're too hung up on the word "start". i could care less if Marshall is a "starter" as long as he plays 80 % of the snaps, which i think he will.

if he's physical at the line of scrimmage has short area quickness and burst and can be a sure tackler that sounds like a heck of a nickle/slot cb to me...the only thing that would concern me if when a guys labeled a jack of all trades that usually means he's not elite at any of em...

sean smith is a perfect example of just that...can play the boundary can play free safety in some sets etc very versatile but not elite at anything...
