I really don't. To me he's just another average run of the mill short slow possession slot receiver with reliable hands. I always called him "Devone Bess 2.0". He has no vertical speed, no go up and get height or wingspan, and very limited big play ability. I guess he's perfect for Tannehill, since he also plays in the "20 yard box". He's just very average to me. Sure, he has great hands, can run reliable routes, can make some moves after the catch, and is tough and fearless, but so did Devone Bess. Which decent slot WR doesn't? It's sort of a requirement for the job. We already had Gibson who does that stuff. It just bothers me we wasted a 2nd round pick on the guy when he's really a mid-round talent. What we needed was that physical athletic freak mismatch on the outside and the fact that we didn't get one is starting to rear it's ugly head in the redzone and when we need a WR to make a big play to bail Tanny out. There's a reason Sammy Watkins, Mike Evans, Brandin Cooks, Travis Benjamin, Marquise Lee, Odell Beckham, Jordan Matthews, and Davante Adams got drafted over him. The guys who get paid to make big decisions on draft day know better than we do and there's a reason they all passed up on him. Shoot I would even take Martavis Bryant and John Brown over Landry who got drafted after him. You just don't take slot WRs in the second round, man. Especially not short slow Devone Bess clones. And don't tell me he can play on the outside, cause that's a joke. He can't. But yet people all over these boards hype him up like he's the greatest thing since sliced bread saying oh "This guys a stud" "This guys gonna be special"... Special? What special? Don't you mean "average"? I just don't get the hype. I'm not saying he's bad, I'm just saying he isn't worth all this hype and especially isn't worth a 2 round pick. Don't say I'm bashing or hating when I conceded he has great hands, route running, toughness, and YAC ability. He's good. Just not good enough. Not hype worthy... I mean he's decent, but what's with all the hype?

I mean I guess with those skills if he also had a little height and speed he would be freakin amazing but too bad he doesnt have the god given gifts. Im also still very mad he let a pass that hit his hands get intercepted vs denver.

Ruh roh, you better duck man. I don't agree with a lot of these assumptions. He's a rookie on pace for 80 catches.

Now, yes, he's averaging 9 yards a catch which is honestly kinda pathetic. But it'll get better as we space the offense out more. The #2 WR needs to go, and frankly Wallace is a one-trick pony that can't catch TD's. We need a #1 WR, a better #2 on the outside, and maybe another TE. Always seems like a need on this team.

Who needs to go? Can we name names? Don't be shy, it's ok to say it.

He got hacked on the INT in Denver, could have been flagged for interference. He makes plays, catches almost everything, can return kicks better than anyone we have had in years and is EASILY the best 2nd round pick we have had in 20 years. He is a rook and performing well. How are Pat White, Eddie Moore, Sean Smith, Jonathan Martin, Daniel Thomas, Phillip Merling, John Beck, Todd Wade, JJ Johnson doing? Save for Chris Chambers and Pat Surtain, we cant pick a second rounder. Even trading for dogmeat in Aj Feeley and Brandon Marshall totaling 3 more second round picks.

Seriously man, he is better than most 1st round picks we have had as well.

It's his rookie year and he's making a nice impact already. He's also pretty exciting to watch play - definitely plays with a fire under his ass. While i'm more optimistic about Landry than you, you have a point if we consider a guy like Chris Chambers, also "played tall" and was super hyped up his rookie year but never really became a top WR.

Is there a ZERO star option for threads? Arguably the best rookie WR the Dolphins have ever had and you don't get the hype. Wasn't even a starter until a few games into the season. Ummkay.

Bess had one season over 3 TDs..and that was a career high of 5. He had 14 touchdowns in 6 seasons…
Landry has 5 TDs in his rookie season with 4 games remaining. Good talk.

As for the other receivers…this class has been historically good no doubt about it. There are a ton of teams happy about the WRs they got this year. Not sure why or how that would impact how Dolphin Fans should feel about their WR. He is a fantastic fit for this offense and will only continue to get better.

Landry is not slow. He may not be fast, but he's not slow. Bess was slow. He could make quick cuts but once he started running anyone could catch up to him. I also don't recall Bess ever making the kinds of moves that Landry makes. Landry is stronger and tougher, can take hits and break tackles, I don't recall Bess doing either very well. Also, iirc, Bess's route running was inconsistent. Sometimes he would just disappear. Landry has also already matched Bess's career best for TDs in a season.

.

Not to mention Bess's hobbies included huffing paint. Doesn't seem Landry will be following that path, which should help him become better at his craft...just a hunch.
