So let me see if I'm understanding this correctly. Our new HC who's never been a head coach AT ANY LEVEL of football and has only been a coordinator for 3 years. is going to

A. Be the Head Coach and perform all of the duties that being a head coach entails. ie' Manage Players and Coaches, Set practice schedules, oversee the entire team, manage gameda situations, Media Obligations etc...

B. Be the Offensive Coordinator and perform all of the duties an Offensive Coordinator has to perform.. ie' devise a scheme to fit this team, put together game plans call plays etc..

c. Be the QB coach tasked with "Fixing" Ryan Tanneill

D. Have Final Say on the 53 man Roster and perform all the tasks necessary to be a good evaluator of talent. ie' Watch Film, (of every player on offense, defense and special teams) Break down every players skills, what they can do what they can't do etc...

That is a lot for ANYONE especially a guy as green as Gase to take on. I'm praying for the best.... BUT man I don't see him being able to do all of that and have success.

Am i wrong for feeling this way???

That's the general job description of an NFL head coach.

I think it's great, actually. We hired Adam Gase because he is a kick-ass offensive coordinator. He's known for great offensive game-planning, building an offensive system around his players' strengths, and good gameday play-calling and adjustments. Why hire a guy a guy to run the show and then not take advantage of the thing that got him up the ladder in the first place?

Plenty of current coaches do this stuff, by the way. There are examples when it's been unsuccessful (our own Cam Cam, for instance), but guys like Mike McCarthy, Andy Reid, and Sean Payton jumped right into their first head coaching jobs this way.

Don't forget that he's planning on hiring an inexperienced first time DC to run the defense.

We'll see how it turns out. I am pessimistic as well, but only bc of the history of our front office. Not going to get too up or down until some results come through. I want to see the OLINE addressed. That's something that will excite me at least a little.

This will not be a popular thread. :chuckle:

Let's just hope that Ross and t-bomb have more patience with Gase than they did with Philbin

I'm pretty sure that Cam Cam-m0r0n's Charger Offense before he was hired here was statistically better than the Bears offense was in 2015

I will say it again I would not be the least bit surprised if we daft a QB high in 2017

After he watches all the tape from the last few seasons it might be in 2016 :d-day:

Yea but none of them were coming off of only 3 years of coordinating experience. Just seems like a lot for the young man and I don't want him to NOT be successful because he's trying to do too much.

I was really hoping that wasn't true which is why I didn't mention it. The last thing he needs is a first time DC. He needs someone he can completely trust to run that defense, especially with veteran guys like Suh, Wake (if he returns) Jones etc.. on it. Those guys have has personal success and any first time DC will have to prove he knows what he's doing.

Sean Payton was.

Don't know about the other two.

for what it's worth I'm actually glad he'll be calling the plays. will help him get into rhythm and keep him doing what he's most comfortable with.

His calling plays himself is the best news of all. He has been a proven Xs n Os guy with the ability to put his players in the best spot to succeed. My big concern is if he is alpha male enough to command the lockeroom. The rest of the coaching duties will fall into place, thats also what assistants are for. And he may go through some growing pains in his first year, but honestly we are 2-3 yrs away from being competitive anyway so who cares.

I keep hearing about the great work he did with Jay Cutler then think about the even more impressive job Kelly and Lazor did with Nick Foles (27 TD's 2 INT's in 13 games) and where they are now. Cutler is a much better QB than Foles who is likely a career backup. We'll see how this plays out but I'm also pessimistic after having been burnt going the coordinator route in the past and praising an OC for making a QB better when what our old OC did as a QB coach with his QB (Nick Foles) may have been more impressive.

Many of us have the same concerns, however lets give the guy a chance and see how it goes.

I'm not too concerned about the offensive side of the ball, I think that should go well. He will hire an OC but will handle the play calling. I would have preferred an experienced DC to help him out a bit.......but he is getting the guy he wants, so I have to believe he knows what he is getting.

I think Gase will be able to move to another QB in 2017 or sooner

Lazor and Philbin were not given that option
